fear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A decision over licensing a new golf simulator venue in Ayrshire has been delayed over concern that golf clubs could end up being used as weapons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Golf X opened at the former Arthur Street Kitchen in Ayr earlier this year and  features two <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/av\/world-us-canada-47234064\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">simulator bays<\/a> alongside a bar and kitchen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">During a lengthy hearing at South Ayrshire Council&#8217;s licencing committee applicant Scott Hannah and agent Robert Honeyman were quizzed about the measures taken to ensure the safety of customers and staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Hannah had previously given an example of one patron grabbing a club and brandishing it in a threatening manner, but added the situation had been defused.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The board agreed that the operator would have to demonstrate how the clubs would be secured and how other patrons would be prevented from reaching the clubs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">They also stated the venue needed clearer demarcation of the floor between the seating area and the area where people would be swinging clubs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">South Ayrshire Licensing Standards Officer Catriona Andrews told the board she had expressed concerns to Mr Hannah, in particular the risks of leaving golf clubs unattended in a public area where they are easily accessible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">She pointed out that each simulator would require a set of clubs, rather than a single item of equipment, and that they could be used as weapons during disagreements fuelled by alcohol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">There was also concern patrons could be sitting near the simulators with alcohol whilst individuals are hitting golf balls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Honeyman said the venue was bringing a unique premise to the town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">He added the golf simulators were away from the main area and would be secured when not in use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Councillors queried how easy it would be for a member of the public to grab a golf club from the bays. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Honeyman replied that there was little that could be done, suggesting that would be the same situation should someone want to use a glass or a chair as a weapon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The board agreed to continue to consider the application to allow the applicant to address the issues raised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\"><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/lnp\/ldrs?rel=outbound\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">Story by Local Democracy reporter Kevin Dyson<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A decision over licensing a new golf simulator venue in Ayrshire has been delayed over concern that golf&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":367130,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4106],"tags":[2826,79,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-367129","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-golf","8":"tag-golf","9":"tag-sports","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115077898807673470","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/367129","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=367129"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/367129\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/367130"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=367129"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=367129"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=367129"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
