{"id":367188,"date":"2025-08-23T12:15:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T12:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/367188\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T12:15:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T12:15:17","slug":"former-cricketers-wife-dies-suddenly-while-shopping-in-supermarket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/367188\/","title":{"rendered":"Former cricketer&#8217;s wife dies suddenly while shopping in supermarket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ex-cricket star has been left &#8220;absolutely devastated&#8221; after his wife Wiyada died following a trip to the supermarket<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_Ex-cricket-stars-wife-46-dies-in-Waitrose-store-while-shopping-with-friend.jpg\" alt=\"Ex-cricket star's wife, 46, dies in Waitrose store 'while shopping with friend'\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Wiyada had been shopping with her friends in Surrey(Image: Supplied)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The wife of former cricket star Duncan Pauline, 46-year-old Wiyada, tragically lost her life during a routine trip to the supermarket.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Pauline, the ex all-rounder, has been left &#8220;absolutely devastated&#8221; after his wife&#8217;s sudden death at a Waitrose in Esher, Surrey, earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Emergency services were called to the scene around 6pm on Wednesday following reports of a &#8220;concern for safety&#8221; at the store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Both the high street and the supermarket were closed as medical teams attempted to save her, but she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The 64-year-old cricketer expressed his deep sorrow upon announcing the loss of his partner, who had been eagerly anticipating retirement back in her home country of Thailand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;She went out to Waitrose at about 5.15pm and then I got a call from one of her friends,&#8221; he shared with The Sun.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;I went up there expecting she&#8217;d had a knock on the head but not that she was dead. When I got there the police told me she had passed away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;She had a cloth over her head and she looked very peaceful when they pulled the cloth off her head. She was only 46, it&#8217;s a shock that she could go so young. We&#8217;ve been married for 22 years and we were due to retire in a couple of years,&#8221; reports <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/ex-cricketer-duncan-paulines-wife-35778752\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;She wanted to go back home to Thailand. We even bought a house in Thailand for our retirement &#8211; the sad thing is she won&#8217;t get to do that now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">At the time of the incident, police issued a statement to those in the area, saying: &#8220;We are currently on scene following a call to a concern for safety in Esher shortly after 6pm this evening (August 20). Waitrose on the high street has been closed, and there is a significant emergency services presence in the area as we deal with this incident.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755951317_107_0_Ex-cricket-stars-wife-46-dies-in-Waitrose-store-while-shopping-with-friend.jpg\" alt=\"Ex-cricket star's wife, 46, dies in Waitrose store 'while shopping with friend'\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Duncan Pauline has been left &#8220;absolutely devastated&#8221;(Image: Supplied by husband)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A spokesperson for Waitrose told the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a>: &#8220;Our thoughts are with our customer&#8217;s family and loved ones.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">They said staff &#8220;acted quickly&#8221; and offered support while the emergency teams arrived. &#8220;We&#8217;re now making sure everyone is supported,&#8221; the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Many people took to social media to express their sadness at what had happened. One person on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/facebook\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> wrote: &#8220;That&#8217;s awful and so young too. Thoughts to her family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another person also wrote: &#8220;My thoughts go out to her family and friends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: &#8220;Officers were called to Waitrose on Esher High Street shortly after 6pm yesterday evening (August 20) by the South East Coast Ambulance Service, who were responding to a medical emergency at the location.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Despite the best efforts of paramedics, a woman in her 40s died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.
