But Helen Mirren<\/a> has railed against being so \u201cinsulting\u201d, saying such condescension makes her want to tell people to \u201cfuck off\u201d.<\/p>\n The actor said the hardest part of turning 80 last month was the \u201ccondescension\u201d she was forced to endure when holding hands in public with her husband, Taylor Hackford.<\/p>\n Speaking to the Times<\/a> while promoting the release of her latest film, The Thursday Murder Club,<\/a> she said: \u201cIt really annoys me.<\/p>\n \u201cIf my husband and I are holding hands, someone might say: \u2018Oh, look. How sweet.\u2019 It\u2019s like, excuse my language: \u2018Fuck off.\u2019 There\u2019s something very condescending about some people\u2019s attitudes and I think they think they are being kind and generous. But they\u2019re not. They\u2019re being insulting.\u201d<\/p>\n She recalled the words of her mother, who told her never to be afraid of getting older, and said there were great things about ageing: You \u201close certain stuff but you gain other stuff\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThe tech bros think their billions are somehow going to hold back time,\u201d she said. \u201cThey haven\u2019t learnt my mum\u2019s lesson. It\u2019s a natural wave of life that has been going on for billions of years and it\u2019s beautiful to be part of that wave.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s what humanity is all about in the end. So it\u2019s important not to wimp out. You\u2019re not going to be 30 when you\u2019re 50. You\u2019re just not.\u201d<\/p>\n Mirren has been reminded of mortality throughout her life by the deaths of loved ones. Her younger brother, Peter, died of skin cancer at 54 in 2002, and her stepson Rio Hackford died at 51 of cancer in 2022.<\/p>\n \u201cAs you travel through life you realise death is absolutely part of life.
