Speaking in Glasgow, the former Labour leader said the ex-Scottish first minister should \u201cget over it\u201d.<\/p>\n

In her memoir, Frankly, which was published earlier this month, Ms Sturgeon wrote of Mr Corbyn: \u201cI never warmed to Corbyn.<\/p>\n

\u201cI met him a few times during his leadership of the Labour Party and he exuded the same aura of aloofness and sneering superiority that I have detected in many men on the far left of over the years, particularly around women.\u201d<\/p>\n

Attending a protest for striking workers at the Village Hotel on the southside of Glasgow, Mr Corbyn expressed shock at the comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m astonished she should say that,\u201d he said. \u201cI really am. Nicola, if you\u2019re watching this: get over it. Just get over it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought you and I got on quite well when I was leader of the opposition and you were leader of the SNP.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, I seem to remember some quite convivial conversations with you.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t we have some more of those? I don\u2019t sneer at anybody, and certainly not at you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Corbyn praised Ms Sturgeon, describing her as \u201cclear, determined and very efficient\u201d as first minister and leader of the SNP.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI treated her with respect and, to be quite honest, she also treated me with respect at the meetings we had.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, Nicola, again, if you\u2019re watching this, let\u2019s have a cup of tea, and by the way I want to get a copy of your book as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Corbyn arrived in Glasgow as he looks set to campaign for his new unnamed political party, which is currently running under the title, Your Party.<\/p>\n

Asked if his party represented a threat to Scottish Labour and Anas Sarwar\u2019s bid to become first minister, Mr Corbyn said those in Labour had to \u201cask themselves some very hard questions about what this (UK) Labour Government is actually doing\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also rejected claims from the Scottish Labour leader that he was a \u201cdistraction\u201d who could help keep the SNP in power, saying: \u201cI\u2019m sorry Anas would say that. I don\u2019t think my presence here is a distraction.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m here to support the picket this evening, I\u2019m here to go to Music for the Many, I\u2019m doing an event at the Edinburgh Festival tomorrow and, you know what, I\u2019m delighted to be here in Scotland.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"ScotlandScottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar described Mr Corbyn as a \u2018distraction\u2019 (Andrew Milligan\/PA)<\/p>\n

The veteran politician rejected claims that his new party would split the left and benefit Reform, saying that argument \u201csimply doesn\u2019t add up\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll tell you this,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re not here to (assist) Reform or the Tories winning and so we will work and do work with other people.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur independent Alliance Group in Parliament does co-operate with the Greens, does co-operate with the SNP, with Plaid Cymru and the Labour left, and we\u2019ll continue doing that.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I do think there\u2019s a need for a coherent political voice on the left that summarises the five areas I talked about: peace, justice, equality, sustainability but, above all,\u00a0community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Corbyn said Labour supporters were among the 800,000 to have signed up for his new party, which was created with former Labour MP, Zarah Sultana.<\/p>\n

Asked if he supported Scottish independence, he said it was up to Scots to decide their future, \u201ctherefore if the Scottish people want a second referendum, that\u2019s fine by me and I would support that\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ms Sturgeon and Scottish Labour have been approached for comment.<\/p>\n
