\n\tThe Gorge<\/a> filmmaker Scott Derrickson<\/a> responded to Aubrey Plaza<\/a>\u2018s recent comments about the Apple TV+<\/a> movie helping her process her grief over her late husband Jeff Baena<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a new interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, the director noted he was affected by the Parks and Recreation alumna\u2019s \u201cvery touching\u201d words and how much it meant considering his \u201cpersonal fondness\u201d for the actress.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI mean, how could I not be moved by that?\u201d the Emmy nominee said. \u201cIt was very touching. I think she was being really earnest and, of course, it makes you as a filmmaker feel good that your work is out there giving people experiences and helping them define their own feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Black Phone and Doctor Strange helmer continued, \u201cI don\u2019t think it was something unique to\u00a0The Gorge. I think that she just happened to talk about it the way I\u2019ve talked about movies giving clarity to my own experiences and my own feelings many times.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this week, the Honey Don\u2019t actress appeared on Amy Poehler\u2019s Good Hang podcast, where her friend and former co-star gave her space to talk about how she is coping with Baena\u2019s death<\/a>. The Agatha All Along star compared her grief to the open chasm depicted in the action horror sci-fi, which separates two snipers played by Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy Plaza, adding that while the analogy began as a joke, it also represents how she feels.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAt all times, there\u2019s a giant ocean of awfulness, that\u2019s right there and I can see it, and sometimes I just wanna just dive into it and be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it. Then sometimes I try to get away from it, but it\u2019s always there,\u201d she said in part.<\/p>\n

\n\tBaena \u2014 a screenwriter and director best known for\u00a0projects like Life After Beth\u00a0(2014) and\u00a0The Little Hours\u00a0(2017), both of which starred Plaza \u2014\u00a0died at the age of 47<\/a> in January of this year as a result of suicide<\/a>. At the time of his death, Plaza released a statement, writing<\/a>, \u201cThis is an unimaginable tragedy.
