Wales\u2019 annual Young Carers Festival has been described as \u201clife changing\u201d by an 18-year-old from Wrexham.<\/p>\n

Ffion Scott, who has cared for her disabled mother since the age of four, has attended every festival since 2022. This year she returned as a member of the Young Carers Advisory Board, which met with the Minister for Children and Social Care to discuss issues facing young carers.<\/p>\n

Ffion said: \u201cThe Young Carers Festival has been lifechanging for me.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the festival, you never feel alone. Everyone around you knows what you\u2019re going through, and you don\u2019t have to prove yourself to anyone. Being bored isn\u2019t a thing, because there\u2019s an activity for everyone!<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve made so many friends and core memories. It was great to join the advisory board and meet with the Minister \u2013 having her listen to us made everyone feel equal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The festival, which is free to attend, offers young people a rare break from caring responsibilities. Activities include sports, arts and crafts, and live performances, alongside practical advice on education, careers and carers\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n

Minister for Children and Social Care Dawn Bowden said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to see that a record number of young carers attended the festival this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung carers show incredible strength and maturity, often taking on responsibilities well beyond their years. This festival gives them what every young person deserves \u2013 time to simply be themselves and make friends. The advisory board ensures their voices are heard at the heart of government, helping us better support all young carers across Wales.\u201d<\/p>\n
