Call of Duty: Black Ops 7<\/a> is now available for pre-order ahead of its 14th November release date, which means you\u2019d expect it to be top of the PS Store<\/strong><\/a> sales charts, right? Wrong.<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s certainly not doing terribly by any stretch of the imagination, its Vault Edition \u2013 which includes Early Access to the game\u2019s open beta from 2nd October \u2013 is currently sixth on the US pre-order charts, behind various permutations of NBA 2K26<\/a>, EA Sports FC 26<\/a>, Battlefield 6<\/a>, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it\u2019s expected to see games like Metal Gear Solid and NBA 2K26 above it because they\u2019re coming out soon, but the cheaper Cross-Gen Bundle is also being beaten out by various versions of Borderlands 4<\/a>, Gears of War Reloaded<\/a>, and Ghost of Yotei<\/a>. It\u2019s a similar story in the UK.<\/p>\n

According to Charlie Intel<\/a>, this is one of the first Call of Duty games not to top the PS Store pre-order charts immediately after announcement. But it\u2019s difficult to ascertain from this data whether Black Ops 7 is underperforming or if the competition is simply too strong.<\/p>\n

It was claimed recently that Activision felt Call of Duty was too big to fail<\/a>. While we\u2019d still fully expect the game to do exceptionally well, we reckon it\u2019s inevitable that Battlefield 6 is going to steal some players away this year.<\/p>\n

Perception of Call of Duty does feel like it\u2019s at an all-time low<\/a>. The series has lost a lot of its identity by adding guest characters like Beavis & Butthead, which don\u2019t really fit thematically at all. Moreover, the franchise just feels tired these days \u2013 it\u2019ll be interesting to see if the publisher can turn public opinion around.<\/p>\n
