Norway is providing around seven billion kroner towards strengthening Ukraine\u2019s air defence, with Germany delivering the systems. The contribution includes funding for two Patriot systems with missiles, as well as radars from German manufacturer Hensoldt and air defence systems from Kongsberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether with Germany, we are now ensuring that Ukraine receives powerful air defense systems. Germany and Norway are working very closely together to support Ukraine in its fight to defend the country and protect the civilian population against Russian air attacks,\u201d says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr St\u00f8re.<\/p>\n
Earlier this summer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Prime Minister St\u00f8re agreed that Germany and Norway would cooperate on donating two complete Patriot systems already in German possession to Ukraine. The systems, currently located in Germany, will be delivered as soon as possible, with the United States confirming it will replace them and Norway contributing financially to their replacement.<\/p>\n

\u201cAir defense is also crucial for protecting military units and infrastructure. Now, together with Germany, we are further stepping up our efforts,\u201d says Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik. He added: \u201cThis is a major investment in effective air defense. The support will give Ukraine vital tools to protect Ukrainian lives and contribute to a stronger defense.\u201d<\/p>\n
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius highlighted the bilateral cooperation. \u201cBuilding on our excellent cooperation with Norway, we are very grateful that we are collaborating on this assistance measure and will thus significantly strengthen Ukraine\u2019s air defense capabilities together,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
The Patriot system is capable of countering several threats, especially tactical ballistic missiles which cannot be stopped by ordinary air defence. With long-range radar and high-speed missiles, it is designed to intercept ballistic threats and provide extensive protection.<\/p>\n

Germany is also financing a large contract with Hensoldt for the modern TRML-4D radar, which enhances sensor coverage and strengthens other air defence systems. In addition, it is funding the short-range Typhon-2 system from Kongsberg, developed from Typhon-1, of which Norway donated ten last year. Norway is contributing by donating key components of Typhon-2 from its Armed Forces.<\/p>\n
