Madrid-based Sideral, an integrated production-distribution-sales label which debuted in 2023 at the Berlinale<\/a>, has announced plans to produce and distribute \u201cLos Relatos\u201d a femicide drama by Miguel del Arco with Juan Diego Botto (\u201cThe Room Next Door\u201d), Marta Etura (\u201cCell 211\u201d) and Ainara Elejalde (Mr. No One\u201d) leading the cast.<\/p>\n Sideral will handle both international sales and distribution in Spain.<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n Principal photography kicks off in September with Aqu\u00ed y All\u00ed Films also producing. Its release is targeted for late next year.<\/p>\n \u201cLos Relatos\u201d explores the lasting, painful repercussions of a femicide \u2014 even more than 20 years after the crime was committed. It follows Pablo (played by Botto), who returns to his hometown after serving time for the murder of his wife \u2014 the very place where it all happened. Only the audience can decide whether he deserves a second chance \u2014 ostensibly one his victim will never have.<\/p>\n Said del Arco: \u201cWriting this script has kept me on a constant edge, forcing me to confront deep contradictions. But the act of empathy is precisely what makes us human. Trying to put oneself in another\u2019s place is, I believe, the only way we can move forward as a society.\u201d<\/p>\n Expressing his full confidence in del Arco and his cast, Sideral\u2019s Roberto Butrague\u00f1o said: \u201c\u2019Los Relatos\u2019 is a bold, necessary project, full of sensitivity.\u201d<\/p>\n The drama explores the emotional and moral complexities that arise when a murderer decides to confront his past rather than vanish into anonymity. It delves into the needs of victims and their families as they seek to reclaim dignity in the aftermath of violence. At its core, the story examines the uneasy coexistence of reintegration and justice, the possibility of forgiving the unforgivable and the pursuit of redemption in the face of irreparable harm.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s truly valuable about this film is the number of questions it raises. We would love for \u2018Los Relatos\u2019 to be an accessible proposal for audiences, without giving up on exploring the human issues that generate contradictions, doubts and even rejection,\u201d said Aqu\u00ed y All\u00ed Films\u2019 Pedro Hern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n Founded by Butrague\u00f1o of Elamedia Estudios, Sideral first made its debut presenting feature project \u201cCheaper Than Stealing\u201d at the Berlinale Co-Production Market two years ago. It launched with a strong slate of 22 titles in either production, distribution or sales. These included Javier Rebollo\u2019s \u201cIn the Sultan\u2019s Bedchamber\u201d and \u201cI Have Electric Dreams\u201d from Costa Rican Locarno multiple winner, Valeria Maurel.<\/p>\n Its distribution unit, led by Maria Oliva, has a slew of high-profile pics slated to release, including Michel Franco\u2019s \u201cDreams\u201d starring Jessica Chastain, and \u201cThe Chronology of Water,\u201d starring Imogen Poots, Thora Birch and Jim Belushi.<\/p>\n Other Sideral features in production are Anxos Faz\u00e0ns\u2019s \u201cBroken Lines\u201d (\u201cLas lineas discontinues\u201d), Manuel G\u00f3mez Pereira\u2019s \u201cThe Dinner\u201d (\u201cLa Cena\u201d) and Igor Legarreta\u2019s \u201cBlind Ants\u201d (\u201cLas ciegas hormigas\u201d).<\/p>\n Best of Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n Sign up for Variety’s Newsletter<\/a>.
