This City Is Ours viewers have been impressed with the Liverpool set show\"ThisThis City Is Ours has won acclaim from audiences<\/p>\n

Excitement is building ahead of another episode of This City Is Ours tonight. Fans patient enough to watch the new BBC<\/a> crime show weekly will have their chance to watch the latest instalment at 9pm tonight.<\/p>\n

The fifth episode of eight part series explores the fallout after Billy has stolen the shipment of drugs from Jamie Phelan’s stash house. The Liverpool set show, written by Stephen Butchard,<\/a> has been a hit with fans since it debuted on screens on March 23.<\/p>\n

All eight episodes landed on iPlayer <\/a>on this date and viewers have already raced through to see how the crime saga plays out. Many people have taken to social media platform X and are convinced the show is so good that it needs to have a second season.<\/p>\n

Karl said: “A travesty if there\u2019s no second series.” Julie posted<\/a>: “Just finished watched #thiscityisours what a great series loved it, hope there will be a second series.”<\/p>\n

This City Is Ours follows the story of a gangster named Michael Kavanagh, who is juggling falling in love for the first time with trying to take control a of his criminal empire. Michael is played by Walton-born actor James Nelson-Joyce, who has won acclaim for his performance.<\/p>\n

The actor, who also starred in this year’s A Thousand Blows with Stephen Graham<\/a>, said: “It’s a love letter to Liverpool, in a way. The city looks absolutely stunning and I’m just really proud of it”. He added: “I hope the city watches it and it’s something they’re proud of. That’s all I hope for.”<\/p>\n

Although the show focuses on the criminal underworld in Liverpool, James said the humanity each character is infused with means it’s more than just a crime drama focused on negative stereotypes.<\/p>\n

He said: “There’s subliminal moments in this that, if you watch and you listen, it comes through in the story. “We’re trying to make something Sopranos-esque, Breaking Bad-esque about flawed characters. But you root for them.”<\/p>\n

The programme has been created by Kirkby<\/a> writer, Stephen Butchard, who last set a show in his home region with the acclaimed Good Cop in 2012.<\/p>\n

The writer explained he loves setting productions in his home region as he shares his hopes for what audiences take from the show. He said: “It’s a really exciting ride, first and foremost, and we want people to be gripped. There’s nuances there.<\/p>\n

“There’s a Macbeth stroke to it. It’s about greed and ambition and love. James’ character, Michael, he’s been involved in organised crime all his life. And then suddenly there’s an option with Hannah. It’s like how does he get the prize and continue being what he has been all his life.<\/p>\n

“These aren’t nice people, but I’m hoping the audience fall in love with them.” This City is Ours continues at 9pm tonight on BBC One.
