{"id":370239,"date":"2025-08-24T17:20:21","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T17:20:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/370239\/"},"modified":"2025-08-24T17:20:21","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T17:20:21","slug":"labour-panned-as-inflation-drops-in-europe-but-rises-in-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/370239\/","title":{"rendered":"Labour panned as inflation drops in Europe but rises in UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Inflation in the UK <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25403295.latest-inflation-rate-uk-rose-more-expected-july\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has risen to 3.8%, marking its highest level since January 2024<\/a> and significantly higher than when Labour took office last summer.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The figures, confirmed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/office-for-national-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Office for National Statistics<\/a> (ONS), come as energy analysts at Cornwall Insight warned household bills could rise by an average of \u00a3169 this autumn \u2013 despite Labour\u2019s pre-election pledge to cut them by \u00a3300.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25413133.independence-inevitable---vote-snp-conference\/?rel=cl_lsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Independence is inevitable \u2013 and we\u2019ll vote on that at SNP conference<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Meanwhile, newly released research from the House of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/politics\/westminster\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Commons<\/a> Library, commissioned by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25059069.news-interviews-updates-snp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SNP<\/a>, highlights a stark contrast with the rest of Europe.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  While the UK\u2019s inflation jumped from 2% to 3.8% between June 2024 and July 2025, EU countries have seen a steady drop.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/belgium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Belgium<\/a> saw inflation fall from 5.4% to 2.6% in a single month. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/france\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">France<\/a>, it dropped from 2.5% to just 0.9%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/germany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Germany<\/a> and the Netherlands also recorded notable falls \u2013 down to 1.8% and 2.5% respectively.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The average inflation rate across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/european-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU<\/a> now stands at 2.4%, well below the UK figure.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Interest rates across the Eurozone remain at 2%, half the current Bank of England rate.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  SNP Economy spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/dave-doogan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dave Doogan<\/a> MP said the contrast between the UK and its neighbours \u201cexposes the failure of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/westminster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Westminster<\/a>\u2019s economic management.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He accused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/rachel-reeves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rachel Reeves<\/a> of \u201cflying kites and leaking stories ahead of a brutal budget\u201d whilst ignoring the rising cost of living.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThis week alone gave official figures and official confirmation of what people already know and feel in their day to day lives \u2013 from food, to fuel, to energy \u2013 prices are going up under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/labour-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour Party<\/a>,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Doogan dismissed Labour\u2019s claim that international pressures were to blame.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/labour-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour Party<\/a> can\u2019t hide behind the same excuse used by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/politics\/tories\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Tories<\/a>,\u201d he said. \u201cWhile prices continue to soar in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/brexit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brexit<\/a> Britain, prices are stable for our nearest neighbours in the EU.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added that Labour\u2019s promises of economic change are now \u201cringing hollow\u201d across Scotland.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/rachel-reeves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rachel Reeves<\/a> promised \u2018change\u2019 a year ago \u2013 but it is clearer than ever that things are getting worse on the Labour Party\u2019s watch.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Calling for independence, Doogan said Scotland must be free to chart a different economic course.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe pattern of dire economic data in the UK is now baked in and underlines the urgency of seeking to shape a future beyond the waste of Westminster,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cScotland is rich in resources, but we need the full powers of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/scottish-independence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">independence<\/a> to deliver
