Prince Harry has been estranged from many members of the royal family\u2014including his father, King Charles\u2014for years.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
According to veteran royal biographer Robert Hardman, the window for a full reconciliation between father and son has likely \u201creceded\u201d after the Duke of Sussex\u2019s emotional BBC interview in May.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
That said, Charles and Harry could reunite as soon as September when Harry is back in the U.K.\u2014making it the first time they\u2019d seen one another in 19 months.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
In the latest royal family round of the ongoing \u201cWill they or won\u2019t they?\u201d saga is this question: Will father and son King Charles<\/a> and Prince Harry<\/a> meet up in September when the Duke of Sussex is in the U.K. for his annual visit in support of his WellChild patronage?<\/p>\n The last time Harry saw his father was in February 2024, not long after the King announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer. Charles\u2019s cancer treatment still continues today, and the type and stage of the disease has never been publicly disclosed, though it has been made known that his cancer is not prostate cancer.<\/p>\n Getty<\/p>\n Prince Charles and Prince Harry on February 14, 2018<\/p>\n Royal biographer Robert Hardman believes that Charles and Harry are unlikely to ever fully repair their rift, writing in a piece for The Daily Mail<\/a> that any hope of reconciliation for the two \u201chad just receded further.\u201d<\/p>\n Harry has been estranged from the royal family\u2014namely his father and most especially his brother, Prince William<\/a>\u2014since he and wife Meghan Markle<\/a> stepped back from being working members of the royal family in 2020 and relocated to Meghan\u2019s home state of California. In an emotionally-charged BBC interview last May, Harry said, \u201cI would love reconciliation with my family. He won\u2019t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.\u201d<\/p>\n Hardman said that the royal family\u2019s inner circle was \u201cfrankly appalled\u201d at Harry\u2019s \u201cglib choice of words\u201d regarding Charles\u2019s health.<\/p>\n The official palace response said of Harry\u2019s ongoing court battle to reinstate his official security in the U.K., \u201cAll of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.\u201d Hardman wrote that \u201cWithin the Royal Household, there was both exasperation and incredulity that Prince Harry could expect any sort of rapprochement after springing yet another effusion of scattergun accusations on the family via the media.\u201d<\/p>\n Getty<\/p>\n Prince Harry on April 8, 2025 Getty Images<\/p>\n Prince Harry and King Charles<\/p>\n In July, though, the King and the Duke of Sussex\u2019s respective camps had a summit in London that seemed a positive step forward and a hopeful meeting that could hint at father and son reuniting the next time Harry is in town, which is next month.<\/p>\n \u201cI love my family,\u201d Harry said on Good Morning America in February 2024 (via Us Weekly<\/a>). \u201cThe fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I\u2019m grateful for that.
