Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov<\/a>\u00a0threw cold water on the possibility of an imminent meeting taking place between President Vladimir Putin<\/a> and Ukrainian President Volodymyr\u00a0Zelenskyy<\/a>, saying that no meeting is currently planned.<\/p>\n “Putin is ready to meet with Zelenskyy, when the agenda would be ready for a summit,” Lavrov said during an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday.<\/p>\n “And this agenda is not ready at all,” he continued.<\/p>\n Lavrov’s comments come after President Donald Trump<\/a> suggested earlier this month that the leaders of the two countries had agreed to meet, which would mark a breakthrough in the ongoing war.<\/p>\n “I called President Putin, and began the arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelenskyy,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social on Aug. 18, after he met separately with the two leaders.<\/p>\n Trump met in Alaska with Putin, and then subsequently hosted Zelenskyy at the White House<\/a>, alongside several European leaders.<\/p>\n But in the days since Trump’s meetings with the two leaders, Russia has continued to launch missile strikes on Ukraine, including one that hit an electronics factory<\/a> owned by a U.S.-based company.<\/p>\n The continued attacks \u2014 and Lavrov’s comments \u2014 have raised questions about Trump’s ability to broker a peace deal between the two countries.<\/p>\n Read more CNBC politics coverage<\/p>\n The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Lavrov’s remarks.<\/p>\n
