However, many are already contemplating a life outside the states before the new regime takes office next January.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For U.S. citizens who have grown tired of the increasingly toxic domestic political environment or fearful of a Trump presidency, fresh research suggests the U.K. is near the top of their list for a new home.<\/p>\n<p>Online searches looking at moving to in the U.K. increased by 900% between November 4 and November 6 as Trump\u2019s election victory became clear, analysis by job search site Jobseeker found. That was only topped <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/08\/gen-z-americans-explore-canada-move-trump-election-win\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/08\/gen-z-americans-explore-canada-move-trump-election-win\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 kuWizV\" rel=\"noopener\">by Canada<\/a>, where move-based searches increased by 2,400%.<\/p>\n<p>Americans can benefit from a tier 2 skilled worker visa to move to the U.K. if they have a job offer waiting for them. Approval depends on a worker\u2019s occupation, but there are a host of eligible jobs listed on the U.K. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/skilled-worker-visa-eligible-occupations\/skilled-worker-visa-eligible-occupations-and-codes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/skilled-worker-visa-eligible-occupations\/skilled-worker-visa-eligible-occupations-and-codes\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 kuWizV\">government\u2019s website<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Workers also need to earn a minimum of \u00a338,700 ($50,141) per year, well below the average U.S. salary of around $60,000 based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/pdf\/wkyeng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/pdf\/wkyeng.pdf\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 kuWizV\">BLS statistics<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Americans could be drawn by the U.K.\u2019s free at the point of access healthcare system.<\/p>\n<p>The U.K. political system, rocked by years of instability following the Brexit vote and the disastrous Lizz Truss mini-budget, now also looks like a haven compared with the U.S. in the wake of the election of the center-left Labour government in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe global job market has never been more accessible, with people now embracing a desire to travel when it comes to finding their ideal career,\u201d said David Overmars, a careers and resume expert at Jobseeker.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the coming years, we\u2019re expecting to see more people considering relocation to other countries when making their next career move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Americans haven\u2019t historically been among the most populous citizens moving to the U.K., with migrants mainly hailing from India, Poland, and Pakistan, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk\/resources\/briefings\/migrants-in-the-uk-an-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk\/resources\/briefings\/migrants-in-the-uk-an-overview\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 kuWizV\">Migration Observatory<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among Americans who move to the U.S., less than a quarter do so for work, much lower than motivations for citizens from other countries.<\/p>\n<p>Americans moving abroad<\/p>\n<p>The U.K. is just one of the locations eyed by Americans considering their options, with Canada to the north regarded as the most accessible location.<\/p>\n<p>Jobseeker\u2019s Overmars predicts that Switzerland, New Zealand, and Norway will be the most popular destinations for Americans moving overseas in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Fortune spoke to older, wealthier <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/europe\/2024\/11\/06\/wealthy-boomer-americans-fleeing-portugal-spain-italy-fear-donald-trump-presidency\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/europe\/2024\/11\/06\/wealthy-boomer-americans-fleeing-portugal-spain-italy-fear-donald-trump-presidency\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 kuWizV\" rel=\"noopener\">American citizens in March<\/a> who were looking at properties in the southern European getaway locations of Portugal, Spain, and Greece in anticipation of November\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p>While liberal voters have led the charge in seeking alternative living arrangements, interest in a second passport has grown regardless of who was elected the 47th president.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A survey of over 1,000 U.S. millionaires <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/03\/millionaires-harris-trump-second-passports\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/03\/millionaires-harris-trump-second-passports\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 kuWizV\" rel=\"noopener\">found over 50%<\/a> said they intended to leave the U.S. after November\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside Canada, locations <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/06\/americans-move-abroad-2024-presidential-election\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/06\/americans-move-abroad-2024-presidential-election\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 kuWizV\" rel=\"noopener\">closer to home<\/a>, including Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica have also shown up on Americans\u2019 radars.<\/p>\n<p>David Lesperance, an international tax and immigration advisor working with the ultra-wealthy, previously told Fortune before the election that the outcome of the presidential election wasn\u2019t really influencing his clients\u2019 desire to move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if Kamala Harris wins the US presidency, her supporters know that almost half of their fellow citizens want a MAGA America,\u201d says Lesperance. \u201cThe ripping away of the mask of polite society and the exposure of ugliness underneath will still inspire a significant
