{"id":370686,"date":"2025-08-24T21:26:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T21:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/370686\/"},"modified":"2025-08-24T21:26:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T21:26:13","slug":"warrington-wolves-coach-blasts-woeful-huddersfield-giants-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/370686\/","title":{"rendered":"Warrington Wolves coach blasts woeful Huddersfield Giants defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess saw his side\u2019s already slim play-off hopes all but ended by lowly Huddersfield Giants and admitted: \u2018That\u2019s as bad as it gets.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wire, who have endured a dreadful campaign despite reaching the Challenge Cup final, lost 23-10 at the Accu Stadium and remain in eighth spot on the Super League ladder.<\/p>\n<p>They remain five competition points behind sixth-placed Hull FC, but there are just four rounds remaining now.<\/p>\n<p>And after their defeat to the Giants, Burgess could scarcely hide his frustration, conceding\u00a0that his side played as if their top-six hopes were already over \u2013 and damningly branding the display the worst of his near two-year reign.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s probably as poor as we have played since I\u2019ve been in charge at the club\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Warrington led 10-6 at the break on Sunday, but a second half horror show \u2013 inspired by Giants youngster George Flanagan Jr \u2013 saw the hosts run out worthy victors.<\/p>\n<p>Post-match, Burgess said: \u201cIt was an extremely disappointing second half \u2013 it\u2019s probably as poor as we have played since I\u2019ve been in charge at the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got to ask a few questions of ourselves and I\u2019ll be doing the same with myself because it just wasn\u2019t good enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first half was a fair game, but in the second half we may as well have stayed in the changing room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s confusing because we had a great week in practice and we expect to transfer into our performance, but it just didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s probably the most concerning part \u2013 the guys are just not turning up on gameday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sunday\u2019s reverse brought Warrington\u2019s 13th league defeat of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Asked why his players had failed to perform, Burgess replied: \u201cThat\u2019s probably a question you should ask some of the players. We could all see that second half and some of it is just not good enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve asked the players, \u2018what have we still got to play for?\u2019, and we got the answer today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve got to be careful what I say\u2026 the performance in the second half made it evident that we\u2019re just not where we need to be as a group\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Warrington played in the second half like their season was already over, a point which Burgess accepted.<\/p>\n<p>He revealed: \u201cI just asked them that question. We looked like that and the other team looked like they were fighting for a finals (play-off) spot. It\u2019s pretty disappointing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For a man of Burgess\u2019 standing in the game, who as a player never took a backward step, it was difficult to stomach.<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cI\u2019ve got to be careful what I say.
