PIZZA Hut has shut down its flagship Glasgow restaurant.<\/p>\n

The popular branch on Argyle Street has closed its doors for good after the last day of trade yesterday.<\/p>\n

A sign was placed in the window of the restaurant to inform customers of the closure.<\/p>\n

It read: “We appreciate your custom over the years.<\/p>\n

“Thank you, Glasgow.”<\/p>\n

It was then signed off by the Argyle Street team.<\/p>\n

The flagship branch was part of the famous ‘four corners’- with McDonalds, KFC, Tim Hortons and Pizza Hut all within walking distance of one another.<\/p>\n

There are two other restaurants across the city – one in the Glasgow Fort and the other at Braehead.<\/p>\n

Pizza Hut has been approached for comment.<\/p>\n

It comes after Pizza Hut was saved from the brink of collapse<\/a> by a major investment firm back in January.<\/p>\n

The dine-in arm of the restaurant was rescued by private equity firm Directional Capital, which created DC London Pie Ltd to take over the franchise.<\/p>\n

It saved 3,000 jobs and saw the closure of one restaurant.<\/p>\n

It is separate to the delivery side of the chain, which is owned by Yum! Brands, the US firm that owns KFC.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pizza Hut first arrived in the UK in 1973 and quickly became a favourite with diners.<\/p>\n

At its height, the chain operated over 260 restaurants\u00a0nationwide, employing 10,000 staff and welcoming three million customers each month.<\/p>\n

Some of its most notable creations include the introduction of the pan pizza in 1980, the\u00a0stuffed crust<\/a>\u00a0in 1995, and the re-launch of the pan pizza as the grand pan in 1998.<\/p>\n
