{"id":370972,"date":"2025-08-25T00:03:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T00:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/370972\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T00:03:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T00:03:13","slug":"france-summons-us-ambassador-over-antisemitism-accusations-ukraine-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/370972\/","title":{"rendered":"France Summons US Ambassador Over Antisemitism Accusations | Ukraine news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>France summoned the United States ambassador to France, Charles Kushner, after he wrote a letter in which he accused the French government of \u201cinsufficient action\u201d to counter antisemitism.<\/p>\n<p>The French Foreign Ministry firmly rejected these \u201cunacceptable\u201d remarks, noting that they do not reflect the character of the transatlantic relations between the United States and France.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement the ministry noted: the rise of antisemitic acts in France since October 7, 2023 is a reality that French authorities are fully confronting because of the unacceptable nature of such acts.<\/p>\n<p>France\u2019s reaction to the letter and subsequent actions<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Kushner is to be summoned to the ministry\u2019s headquarters in Paris, the department said.<\/p>\n<p>CNN reached out to the White House and the U.S. State Department for comment.<\/p>\n<p>According to a copy of the letter provided to CNN by the U.S. Embassy, Kushner said he wrote it with \u201cdeep concern\u201d about the situation in France.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAntisemitism has long left its mark on French life, but it exploded after the barbaric Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Since then extremists sympathetic to Hamas and radical activists have been leading a campaign of intimidation and violence across Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u2013  Kushner, Ivanka Trump\u2019s father-in-law\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter, dated Monday, August 25, was addressed to President Emmanuel Macron.<\/p>\n<p>Kushner, who was confirmed to the post in May, urged Macron to strengthen the enforcement of hate crime laws regardless of the circumstances and to put more effort into ensuring the safety of the Jewish community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn France, attacks on the Jewish community occur daily  \u2013  on the streets, in synagogues or schools  \u2013  or on Jewish property are damaged,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPublic statements that focus on Israel and steps toward recognizing a Palestinian state incite extremists, fuel violence and threaten Jewish life in France,\u201d Kushner added in response to France\u2019s and several other Western countries\u2019 announcements to recognize a Palestinian state in September.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged the French president to \u201crefrain from steps that lend legitimacy to Hamas and its allies,\u201d while citing steps by U.S. President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump has Jewish children and shared Jewish grandchildren. I know how he regards antisemitism, as do all Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u2013  Kushner\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Last week Israel launched a series of diplomatic actions against several Western allies, preparing to recognize a Palestinian state in September.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Netanyahu sent Macron a sharply critical letter, accusing France of a decision that \u201cencourages Hamas terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour call for a Palestinian state pours fuel on this antisemitic flame,\u201d Netanyahu wrote in a letter released by CNN.<\/p>\n<p>France called this step an attempt to revive a bilateral approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to bring peace to the region, but Israel and the United States sharply criticized the initiative, calling it \u201can encouragement of terror\u201d that could undermine peace efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Macron noted that France\u2019s plans to recognize a Palestinian state reflect its \u201chistoric commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australia and France are among the latest Western countries to announce plans to recognize a Palestinian state; Canada and Portugal have also voiced similar intentions.
