In September, 2023, the Welsh Government introduced a reduction in the default speed limit on restricted roads in Wales from 30mph to 20mph. Igniting a huge public outcry, a petition was signed by hundreds of thousands of people calling for the ruling be overturned.<\/a><\/p>\n A year later, in September, 2024, the Government announced that Welsh councils could opt to revert some roads back to 30mph if they followed a certain criteria. Consultations began across Wales with local authorities consulting residents about which roads they believed should be considered for alteration.<\/p>\n This process is still ongoing in many areas, while in others the decision has been finalised.<\/a><\/p>\n Some local authorities are not restoring any of their 20mph roads, meanwhile others are changed theirs this month. Here’s what we have discovered.<\/p>\n Anglesey<\/strong><\/p>\n These are the roads that have been proposed to revert back to 30mph.<\/p>\n Blaenau Gwent<\/strong><\/p>\n A section of the A467, Aberbeeg Road, will revert to its previous speed limit of 40mph whilst all the other roads set at 20mph in 2023 will remain.<\/p>\n Caerphilly<\/strong><\/p>\n Caerphilly<\/a> County Borough Council are continuing the process of identifying roads before a consultation and decision making process. The council expect this to be completed by the end of this year.<\/p>\n Cardiff<\/strong><\/p>\n In Cardiff<\/a> there are four roads that have been confirmed to revert back to 30mph<\/p>\n Carmarthenshire<\/strong><\/p>\n These A and B Class roads have been proposed to return to 30mph, subject to consultation and the Traffic Regulation Order process:<\/p>\n Ceredigion<\/strong><\/p>\n There will be no proposed changes to any existing speed limits.<\/p>\n Conwy<\/strong><\/p>\n A list of priority roads have been confirmed for assessment by Conwy<\/a> council but a final decision has yet to be made on the following roads.<\/p>\n B5115:<\/p>\n Bryn Lupus Road, Llanrhos<\/p>\n Rhos Promenade and Marine Drive, Llandrillo-yn-Rhos (Rhos on Sea)<\/p>\n Glan y Mor Road, Bae Penrhyn (Penrhyn Bay)<\/p>\n B5106:<\/p>\n A547:<\/p>\n A548: Foryd Road and Towyn Road, Tywyn (Towyn) and Bae Cinmel (Kinmel Bay)<\/p>\n B5383: Rotary Way, Hen Golwyn (Old Colwyn)<\/p>\n St Asaph Avenue, Bae Cinmel (Kinmel Bay)<\/p>\n B5113: Kings Drive to Llanrwst Road, Bryn y Maen<\/p>\n B5279 Tyn y Groes Road<\/p>\n Meirion Drive, Conwy<\/p>\n B4406 Penmachno to A5<\/p>\n Conway Old Road to Bwlch Sychnant (Sychnant Pass)<\/p>\n Maesdu Avenue, Deganwy<\/p>\n Denbighshire<\/strong><\/p>\n The council has no plans to increase the speed limit<\/a> on any of its 20mph roads.<\/p>\n Flintshire<\/strong><\/p>\n These are roads are set to return to 30mph in Flintshire<\/a> this month.<\/p>\n Gwynedd<\/strong><\/p>\n In June Cyngor Gwynedd<\/a> confirmed that the A499 at Llanbedrog and the A496 at Bontddu are currently part of a 28 day pre-consultation stage in the review process subject to securing support from public consultations.<\/p>\n Merthyr Tydfil<\/strong><\/p>\n The council received comments on 20 roads, however a review concluded that four roads will be reverted back to 30mph.<\/p>\n Monmouthshire<\/strong><\/p>\n Monmouthshire<\/a> Council decided it is not reverting any roads from the current 20mph speed limit.<\/p>\n Neath Port Talbot Council<\/strong><\/p>\n The council has said it is reviewing 93 comments about streets or roads following a consultation after the revised Welsh Government<\/a> guidance.<\/p>\n Newport<\/strong><\/p>\n In March this year Newport Council stated it wanted to change the speed limit for the following 16 streets in Newport<\/a>. A public consultation has taken place and a final decision will be made after the feedback from the consultation is assessed.<\/p>\n Pembrokeshire<\/strong><\/p>\n Following public feedback gathered during Pembrokeshire<\/a> County Council’s recent listening exercise the authority is reviewing the 20mph speed limits across the county.<\/p>\n Councillor Rhys Sinnett, confirmed that where a speed limit review had been proposed the council would engage directly with local residents before moving to wider consultation and any formal changes.<\/p>\n Powys<\/strong><\/p>\n Recommendations for 43 roads in Powys were published. The following roads were recommended to have a 30mph speed limit.<\/p>\n Rhondda Cynon Taf<\/strong><\/p>\n Following a review the council has confirmed 26 roads that could return to 30mph from 20mph.<\/p>\n Swansea<\/strong><\/p>\n 17 roads in Swansea<\/a> could potentially see their speed limits increased from 20mph to 30mph.<\/p>\n Torfaen<\/strong><\/p>\n Consultations have taken place regarding the following roads to be revised.<\/p>\n Vale of Glamorgan<\/strong><\/p>\n The Vale of Glamorgan council are currently reviewing 83 roads that could change but a list of which roads are being considered has not been shared.<\/p>\n Wrexham<\/strong><\/p>\n These are the roads set for reversion to 30mph:<\/p>\n\n
