{"id":37115,"date":"2025-04-21T01:52:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-21T01:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/37115\/"},"modified":"2025-04-21T01:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T01:52:09","slug":"dish-compared-to-middle-class-kfc-at-top-bristol-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/37115\/","title":{"rendered":"Dish compared to &#8216;middle class KFC&#8217; at top Bristol restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sunday Times gave it a rare five-star review<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_BRI_PG_240524wilsons-44.jpg\" alt=\"Jan Ostle, co-founder of Wilsons Restaurant\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Jan Ostle, co-founder of Wilsons Restaurant(Image: PAUL GILLIS \/ Reach PLC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A Bristol restaurant has received a rave review from the critic of The Sunday Times, who described it as \u2018delightful\u2019 but went on to compare one dish to a famous fast food staple.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Writer Charlotte Ivers gave Michelin-starred restaurant Wilsons in Redland <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/life-style\/food-drink\/article\/wilsons-restaurant-review-everything-is-delightful-at-this-michelin-star-restaurant-vqr5fvjw6\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">a rare five-star review in her weekly column<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink\/tried-35-lunch-menu-wilsons-9469789\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Wilsons recently gained a Michelin star, making it one of only two such restaurants in Bristol<\/a> &#8211; the other being Bulrush in Cotham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It has taken Wilsons nine years to get the accolade and Ivers said the restaurant\u2019s long-awaited recognition \u2018feels more like a barrister finally becoming a KC: recognition of many long years of excellence\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The critic went on to add that Wilsons \u2018does good food, has no tablecloths and no pretensions\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She praised every dish she tried, even describing the snacks of pheasant nuggets fried in buttermilk as \u2018a wonderfully crunchy middle-class KFC\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Ivers described the desserts as \u2018charming\u2019, especially the \u2018proper-sized\u2019 tarte tatin for the table to share at the end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She also raved about the pre-dessert snacks, especially a \u2018superb marshmallowy\u2019 soft meringue, blackened with a hot coal to give it a charcoal edge and served with a herb sorbet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1745200329_345_0_BRI_PG_240524wilsons-32.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Wilsons is a small, independently owned and run farm-to-table restaurant in Redland(Image: PAUL GILLIS \/ Reach PLC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe outcome is the most remarkable combination of bitter, sweet and fresh. It\u2019s delightful,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Sunday Times reviewer wrapped up her glowing review by saying: \u201cDelightful is the word that keeps coming to mind. The room is delightful. The staff are delightful.
