\n This week\u2019s meeting between President Zelenskyy, President Trump\u00a0and European countries including the UK marked a significant step in securing a peace deal that protects Ukraine\u00a0and Europe.\n<\/p>\n
\n Nobody should be complacent; this is not a peace yet. But we have seen the strongest language yet over the US guaranteeing Ukraine\u2019s security in any peace deal.\n<\/p>\n
\n I do not think it should be understated how important the UK\u2019s involvement has been in bringing together this summit.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Prime Minister has ensured that Britain and the US\u2019s special relationship remains a useful asset to the UK\u2019s interests, at a time of instability on the global stage.\n<\/p>\n
\n By standing firm with Ukraine\u00a0and working closely with the US, the UK has helped to close the rift that was on display last time we saw Zelenskyy meet Trump in the White House.\n<\/p>\n
\n A peace is long overdue. Since February 2022, an estimated 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers and over 13,000 civilians have been killed; 20,000 Ukrainian children have been abducted by Russia over the course of the invasion.\n<\/p>\n
\n While this dialogue between Zelenskyy and Trump was taking place, Russia launched further attacks consisting of 270 drones, and ballistic and cruise missiles.\n<\/p>\n
\n This has been a devastating and horrifying conflict\u00a0that must come to an end as soon as possible \u2013 with protections against an invasion like this happening to Ukraine again.\n<\/p>\n
\n We cannot forget that the security of Ukraine\u00a0is also the security of Europe.\n<\/p>\n
\n The UK Government remains steadfast in their support for Ukraine. It is imperative that we continue to stand by Ukraine\u2019s side while we work towards peace.\n<\/p>\n
