{"id":371282,"date":"2025-08-25T02:56:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T02:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/371282\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T02:56:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T02:56:11","slug":"india-will-buy-oil-where-it-gets-best-deal-indian-envoy-to-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/371282\/","title":{"rendered":"India will buy oil where it gets &#8216;best deal&#8217;: Indian envoy to Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1752989830_108_1x1_spacer.png\" alt=\"India\u2019s envoy to Russia Vinay Kumar. \" title=\"India\u2019s envoy to Russia Vinay Kumar. \" data-original=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1752989830_108_1x1_spacer.png\" class=\"lead-img\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">\n                    India\u2019s envoy to Russia Vinay Kumar.<br \/>\n                                          | Photo Credit: Indian Embassy in Russia\n                                      <\/p>\n<p>Indian companies will continue buying oil from wherever they get the &#8220;best deal&#8221;, India&#8217;s envoy to Russia Vinay Kumar has said, asserting that New Delhi will continue taking measures which protect its &#8220;national interest&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Russia&#8217;s state-run TASS news agency published on Sunday (August 24, 2025), Mr. Kumar said that New Delhi&#8217;s priority is ensuring energy security of the country&#8217;s 1.4 billion people.<\/p>\n<p><img src-template=\"https:\/\/th-i.thgim.com\/public\/incoming\/g8kcxh\/article69972832.ece\/alternates\/SQUARE_80\/20240126277L.jpg\" data-original=\"https:\/\/th-i.thgim.com\/public\/incoming\/g8kcxh\/article69972832.ece\/alternates\/SQUARE_80\/20240126277L.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-device-variant=\"SQUARE~SQUARE~SQUARE~SQUARE\" class=\"media-object lazy adaptive placeholder lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p>His remarks come amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/secondary-tariffs-on-india-aggressive-economic-leverage-to-force-russia-to-stop-war-vance\/article69972890.ece\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. criticism of India\u2019s purchase of discounted Russian crude<\/a>, a criticism which India has strongly rejected.<\/p>\n<p>Stressing that trade takes place on a &#8220;commercial basis&#8221;, Mr. Kumar said, &#8220;Indian companies will continue buying from wherever they get the best deal. So that&#8217;s what the current situation is.&#8221;\t  \t <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;We have clearly stated that our objective is energy security of 1.4 billion people of India and India&#8217;s cooperation with Russia, as of several other countries, has helped to bring about stability in the oil market, global oil market,&#8221; the report quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n<p>His comments come in the backdrop of the Donald Trump administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/Economy\/usa-donald-trump-additional-25-per-cent-tariff-on-india\/article69902006.ece\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">doubling tariffs on Indian goods to a whopping 50%<\/a>, including a 25% additional duty for India&#8217;s purchase of Russian crude oil.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. has alleged that India&#8217;s purchases of Russian crude oil are funding Moscow&#8217;s war in Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/jaishankar-meets-putin-in-kremlin-russia-august-21-2025\/article69960762.ece\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">a charge strongly rejected by India.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Calling Washington&#8217;s decision &#8220;unfair, unreasonable and unjustified&#8221;, Mr. Kumar said that the Indian government &#8220;will continue taking measures which will protect the national interest of the country&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>India has been maintaining that its energy procurement, including from Russia, is driven by national interest and market dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kumar said that trade between India and Russia is based on mutual interests and market factors, and added that it is done with the &#8220;overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are other countries including the U.S. itself and in Europe trading with Russia,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img src-template=\"https:\/\/th-i.thgim.com\/public\/incoming\/hvaemw\/article69963254.ece\/alternates\/SQUARE_80\/Trump_20385.jpg\" data-original=\"https:\/\/th-i.thgim.com\/public\/incoming\/hvaemw\/article69963254.ece\/alternates\/SQUARE_80\/Trump_20385.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-device-variant=\"SQUARE~SQUARE~SQUARE~SQUARE\" class=\"media-object lazy adaptive placeholder lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/jaishankar-hits-out-at-us-tariffs-says-india-will-not-compromise-on-farmers-interests\/article69967779.ece\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, responding to a question<\/a> on the U.S. criticism of India on the crude oil issue, said, \u201cIt&#8217;s funny to have people who work for a pro-business American administration accusing other people of doing business.\u201d \t <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat&#8217;s really curious. If you have a problem buying oil or refined products from India, don&#8217;t buy it. Nobody forces you to buy it.
