A popular slasher film from 2023 that contained so much blood and gore it made fans \u2018want to throw up\u2019 will be added to Netflix<\/a> very soon.<\/p>\n Horror movie<\/a> Thanksgiving, from director and co-writer Eli Roth<\/a>, was praised by audiences upon release as \u2018the most fun\u2019 they\u2019d had in the cinema that year and a \u201810\/10\u2019 film \u2018that saved the horror genre\u2019<\/a>, as well as boasting a strong 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> from critics\u2019 reviews.<\/p>\n And after a near two-year wait in the UK, patient horror fans will be rewarded next month when it finally hits the streaming platform over here on September 1.<\/p>\n Initially conceived as a fictitious exploitation trailer that played alongside Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino<\/a>\u2019s 2007 double feature Grindhouse, Roth decided to fully realise the gory, decapitation-happy and turkey-centred horror alongside screenwriter Roger Birnbaum.<\/p>\n Thanksgiving is set in Plymouth, Massachusetts \u2013 traditionally seen as the birthplace of the US holiday<\/a> \u2013 following a tragic Black Friday riot, after which, a year later, a killer in a John Carver mask and pilgrim hat starts picking off residents one by one in gruesome revenge killings.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tGet personalised updates on all things Netflix\t\t\t<\/p>\n Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro\u2019s TV Newsletter.<\/p>\n Sign up to our newsletter<\/a> and then select your show in the link we\u2019ll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you.<\/p>\n These include disembowelment, bludgeoning and a truly horrific and grisly turkey dinner, just as promised in the original concept trailer.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \t\t Starring Patrick Dempsey<\/a>, Addison Rae<\/a>, Nell Verlaque, Suits actor Rick Hoffman and Gina Gershon, Thanksgiving made $46.6million (\u00a334.4m) on a budget of $15m (\u00a311m) and was hailed the best film of Roth\u2019s directorial career.<\/p>\n \u2018Thanksgiving is a gruesome graphic bloody gory movie with so many [sic] blood and gore [it] just literally makes you wanna throw up and you don\u2019t know how much gore is going to be in the movie till you see all of the kills,\u2019 enthused fan Jacob B on Rotten Tomatoes, while Jason S added: \u2018Not usually a fan of gory horror, but there\u2019s something fantastic about this movie. Absolutely love it! Watching this every Thanksgiving!\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018So good, and so creative, 10\/10 an amazing slasher film,\u2019 shared another fan \u2013 one of many to give it full marks \u2013 while Ralph R wrote: \u2018Eli Roth\u2019s Thanksgiving is exactly what you\u2019d expect from the director of Hostel; gory, outrageous, and packed with shocking kills.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018[A] modern slasher that saves the genre that is horror,\u2019 declared Michael J as Doni P called Thanksgiving \u2018the most fun I had in a theatre in 2023\u2019.<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t \u2018The ride gets crazier and bloodier as the bodies add up and the killings get more brutal!\u2019 they added, suggesting that \u2018even non-horror fans would enjoy\u2019 the film.<\/p>\n \u2018Thanksgiving is the best directorial effort of Eli Roth\u2019s career, and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s particularly close<\/a>. The thrills are good, the gore is great, and I\u2019m thankful for the bountiful harvest of slasher goodness the film provides,\u2019 read ComicBook.com<\/a>\u2019s review.<\/p>\n Critic Maxance Vincent<\/a> suggested he could \u2018absolutely see this film becoming a new holiday classic, solely on its opening scene\u2019, as GamesRadar<\/a>\u2019s review admired Thanksgiving\u2019s \u2018quite brilliant stomach-ripping, face-splitting practical effects\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018Served hot, Roth\u2019s Thanksgiving is so good you\u2019ll lick it off your fingers\u2026 or someone else\u2019s,\u2019 proclaimed IndieWire<\/a>, while critic Douglas Davidson<\/a> observed that the film \u2018goes hard, though not as hard as Planet Terror in the gore department, but hard enough to unsettle stomachs<\/a> and inspire eye aversion\u2019.<\/p>\n \t\t Thanksgiving\u2019s success has also seen a sequel greenlit, just weeks after its release in 2023, which is understood to start filming later this year.<\/p>\n Returning cast member Varlaque told Deadline<\/a> in May: \u2018I think we will be filming this year.
