{"id":371389,"date":"2025-08-25T03:54:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T03:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/371389\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T03:54:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T03:54:17","slug":"grealish-superb-hurzeler-on-rutter-is-ndiaye-injured","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/371389\/","title":{"rendered":"Grealish superb, Hurzeler on Rutter + is Ndiaye injured?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jack Grealish<\/strong> (\u00a36.5m) provided the inspiration as Everton beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>We pick out the key takeaways from this match in our next Gameweek 2 Scout Notes piece.<\/p>\n<p>GREALISH SHINES<\/p>\n<p>Jack Grealish was front and centre of Everton\u2019s 2-0 win over Brighton.<\/p>\n<p>The playmaker provided two assists to earn a share of the bonus and 11 points.<\/p>\n<p>He nearly added a third assist, too, only for substitute <strong>Dwight McNeil<\/strong> (\u00a35.9m) to miscue his shot from 10 yards out.<\/p>\n<p>Grealish\u2019s impressive performance included three chances created.<\/p>\n<p>He also demonstrated his commitment to Everton\u2019s defensive cause, with 11 defensive contributions (DefCons).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI felt really good. It was nice. I don\u2019t want to get into like saying I didn\u2019t feel free before, but out there today I could drift, I could do what I want more or less and play with a bit of freedom. Take more risks. I feel like I have done that.\u201d \u2013 Jack Grealish<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>With No 10 <strong>Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall<\/strong> (\u00a35.0m) frequently drifting to the left to connect with Grealish, 66.7% of the chances created by Everton on Sunday originated from that side of the pitch, compared to just 11.1% on the right.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"619\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screen-Shot-2025-08-24-at-18.08.27-619x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-145136 webpexpress-processed\" style=\"width:450px\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">Above: Everton\u2019s average position map v Brighton, inc Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (22) and Jack Grealish (18)<\/p>\n<p>IS NDIAYE INJURED?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iliman Ndiaye<\/strong> (\u00a36.5m) was the first scorer at Everton\u2019s new stadium, tapping home Grealish\u2019s low cross.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite a lively display, he was unexpectedly hooked on 63 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC live commentary (see below) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/sport\/football\/football-news\/everton-player-ratings-jack-grealish-32340433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool Echo<\/a> have both suggested he was injured, but we\u2019ve not yet heard anything from the player himself or David Moyes to corroborate that.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screen-Shot-2025-08-24-at-21.23.24-1024x392.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-145137 webpexpress-processed\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll hopefully get an update when Moyes faces the media before Wednesday\u2019s EFL Cup tie against Mansfield Town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Garner<\/strong> (\u00a35.0m) powered home the second for Everton.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, <strong>Thierno Barry<\/strong> (\u00a36.0m) was preferred to <strong>Beto<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) up top.<\/p>\n<p>Although he didn\u2019t have much joy in front of goal, notably heading a chance over from a Dewsbury-Hall corner, he held the ball up well and likely did enough to secure another start at Molineux next week.<\/p>\n<p>BRIGHTON RUE MISSED CHANCES\/WELBECK PEN<\/p>\n<p>Everton were lucky to keep their clean sheet intact on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaoru Mitoma<\/strong> (\u00a36.5m) and <strong>Jan<\/strong> <strong>Paul van Hecke<\/strong> (\u00a34.5m) both struck the woodwork.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Danny Welbeck<\/strong> (\u00a36.4m) also had a penalty saved by <strong>Jordan Pickford<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m), notably when <strong>Matt O\u2019Riley<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) was on the pitch, as Brighton created 2.36 expected goals (xG).<\/p>\n<p>Welbeck had an earlier opportunity, too, which he scooped over the bar from six yards out. The xG figure on that chance was 0.77.<\/p>\n<p>It was supplied by <strong>Yankuba Minteh<\/strong> (\u00a36.0m), who caused plenty of problems for Everton\u2019s makeshift left-back Garner.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, his searing pace helped create four chances for his teammates at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the most of any player. He also racked up 13 penalty box touches, another match-high.<\/p>\n<p>On the DefCon front, <strong>Mats Wieffer<\/strong> (\u00a35.0m), <strong>James Tarkowski<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m), <strong>Michael Keane<\/strong> (\u00a34.5m) and Garner all picked up extra points for their defensive efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Tarkowski is now one of just five defenders to earn DefCon points in each of the first two Gameweeks.<\/p>\n<p>RUTTER INJURY LATEST<\/p>\n<p>Welbeck made his return to Brighton\u2019s starting XI in Gameweek 2, with <strong>Georginio Rutter<\/strong> (\u00a36.0m) unexpectedly absent.<\/p>\n<p>Fabian Hurzeler later revealed the Frenchman had picked up a small issue on the eve of the match.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cHe had a small issue in training and unfortunately then we had to make the decision.
