Picture credit: Tim Mosenfelder) Hannon, who hails from Derry, told the Glasgow Times: \u201cI wrote the song after a night at an indie disco with Stuart and Marisa in Glasgow.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt was like a proper disco and I\u2019d never been to one before. I\u2019d only been to crap clubs in provincial Northern Ireland growing up, which played Funky Town.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI owe Glasgow a lot.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  After becoming friends with Murdoch, Hannon said he would come to Glasgow quite often.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added: \u201cI enjoy the city very much.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>\u201c<\/strong>When we started touring in the mid-&#8217;90s, I was always more of an Edinburgh man. But as time went on, I grew to love Glasgow more. I got into the whole vibe.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: Picture credit: Kevin Westenberg) Hannon will be performing a sold-out show at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on October 20 after an acoustic gig in the city\u2019s Oran Mor on September 17.\u00a0The Oran Mor show is for Assai Records customers and tickets can be bought <a href=\"https:\/\/assai.co.uk\/products\/the-divine-comedy-rainy-sunday-afternoon-oran-mor-glasgow-ticket-bundle-wednesday-17th-september-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The gigs will celebrate the release of the band\u2019s new album, Rainy Sunday Afternoon, set to drop on September 19.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios, the record, which is the band\u2019s 13th since their formation in 1989, was written, arranged, and produced by Hannon.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI think it\u2019s impressive to still be making records that people want to talk to me about,\u201d Hannon joked as he dived into the inspiration behind the band\u2019s upcoming release.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: Picture credit: Kevin Westenberg) \u201cIf you think of the Divine Comedy at its most orchestral, melancholic, poignant, and thoughtful, that\u2019s what this album is,\u201d the 54-year-old\u00a0said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He continued: \u201cI just make the records that I feel I have to make for my own sanity.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWhen it came to this album, I spent a long time working on music for Wonka (Musical fantasy film starring Timoth\u00e9e\u00a0Chalamet), so I needed to go back to myself.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cMy father died, my favourite dog died, and we were renovating the house. I couldn\u2019t live in my own home for a year and that was really s***. I just wanted to go home.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWhen it came to making the album, I wrote and selected songs that suited my mood. I grouped them together, and they work well.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Hannon \u2013 who also did theme music for sitcoms Father Ted and The IT Crowd &#8211; went on to hail the experience of recording in Abbey Road as wonderful.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said he decided to make a whole album in the studios during the pandemic.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI wanted to do it just once before I kicked it,\u201d he said. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: Picture credit: Kevin Westenberg) Teasing fans on what they can expect from the Glasgow show\u2019s setlist, Hannon said: \u201cI\u2019m going to try and squeeze six songs from the new album in because I like it. More than that, and I wouldn\u2019t get half of the things people want to hear in.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt gets harder and harder to do the set list.
