Will Smith<\/a> is being accused of using AI<\/a> to generate images of fans in a new video of his tour.<\/p>\n

The rapper and actor is currently on the road<\/a> in support of \u2018Based On A True Story\u2019<\/a> \u2013 his first studio album in 20 years, which came out in March.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the UK leg, Smith took to Instagram to share a video with highlights of the tour so far. The clip shows packed crowds at the gigs, with fans holding signs and cheering for the rapper as he walks along the barricade. Smith wrote in the caption:\u00a0\u201cMy favourite part of tour is seeing you all up close. Thank you for seeing me too.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the clip has been criticised by some for allegedly using AI to generate some of the images of fans.<\/p>\n

Some shots show audience members, many of whom are crying, with blurred or distorted faces, while others appear to have oddly shaped hands or excess fingers.<\/p>\n

Another shot shows a man gripping a sign that reads: \u201c\u2018You Can Make It\u2019 helped me survive cancer. THX Will,\u201d but his knuckles seem to be blurred into the sign.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the woman in front of him seems to be holding his hand, but the headband of the woman behind her also merges onto her wrist.<\/p>\n

NME has contacted a representative for Smith for comment.<\/p>\n

Users on Reddit<\/a> have responded to the video, with one writing that it was \u201cPathetic\u201d, and another adding: \u201cIt looks like image upscaling gone horribly wrong. I\u2019d guess those are real people who now get to see what a melted waxwork of themselves would be like.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes during a period of controversy for AI technology in the music industry, with a recent study sharing the stark warning that\u00a0people working in music are likely to lose a quarter of their income to Artificial Intelligence over the next four years.<\/a><\/p>\n

Deezer also reported that around 10,000 AI-generated tracks are submitted to the platform daily<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 making up around 10 per cent of all its music uploads, and it has also emerged that\u00a0AI-generated songs are reportedly being uploaded to dead musicians\u2019 profiles<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0Spotify<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0Elton John<\/a>,\u00a0Coldplay<\/a>,\u00a0Dua Lipa<\/a>,\u00a0Paul McCartney<\/a>,\u00a0Florence Welch<\/a>,\u00a0Kate Bush<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Robbie Williams<\/a>\u00a0are among those who this year\u00a0called on the UK government to change copyright laws amid the threat from AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere,\u00a0SZA<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0hit out at AI users for being \u201ccodependent on a machine\u201d<\/a>, and James Cameron<\/a> has revealed he is worried that the technology could lead to a real-life version of his film The Terminator<\/a>.<\/p>\n
