It combines the urban accessibility of a tram with a train\u2019s greater speed in the suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>The group sees considerable potential for tram train technology to improve public transport in Edinburgh. They are encouraged by the positive conclusions of a project \u201cThe South Sub Tram-Train\u201d that was carried out<a href=\"https:\/\/theedinburghreporter.co.uk\/2025\/03\/making-moves-on-the-edinburgh-south-sub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> by Heriot-Watt engineering students earlier this year.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Newly appointed \u201cTram Trains for Edinburgh\u201d chairperson Rob Falcon said: \u201cThe South Suburban railway line is a significant public asset which is currently underused.
