The group explains that a Tram Train is a light rail vehicle that can provide passenger services on both tram tracks in a city street, and on a traditional rail line. It combines the urban accessibility of a tram with a train\u2019s greater speed in the suburbs.<\/p>\n

The group sees considerable potential for tram train technology to improve public transport in Edinburgh. They are encouraged by the positive conclusions of a project \u201cThe South Sub Tram-Train\u201d that was carried out by Heriot-Watt engineering students earlier this year.<\/a><\/p>\n

Newly appointed \u201cTram Trains for Edinburgh\u201d chairperson Rob Falcon said: \u201cThe South Suburban railway line is a significant public asset which is currently underused. Using Tram Train technology makes reopening the route much more practical than earlier proposals and could transform public transport across many parts of Edinburgh.\u201d<\/p>\n
