Wayne Rooney believes there is “no excuses” for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United<\/a> this season.<\/p>\n United began the Premier League<\/a> season with a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford<\/a>. That was followed by a disappointing 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.<\/p>\n Amorim was hoping to make a better start to the campaign. The 40-year-old was backed with the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Diego Leon this summer and is targeting a return to Europe.<\/p>\n United have played just two Premier League games, but they will have to perform better if they want to qualify for European competition after finishing 15th in a dismal 2024\/2025.<\/p>\n Amorim must start winning matches to prevent pressure from building and Rooney shared his verdict on his BBC podcast<\/a>. \u201cThere are no excuses now for the manager this season,” he said.<\/p>\n “He\u2019s got to start getting results and getting results quickly because once you start getting into October, November, if results don\u2019t change drastically, then that\u2019s when pressure comes.<\/p>\n \u201cUnited really needed to hit the ground running this season and one point from six is a worry.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s only two games into the season but the worrying sign is we\u2019re seeing things that we saw last season and that\u2019s a concern.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked if Amorim is the right man for the long term, Rooney replied: \u201cIt\u2019s difficult to sit here and say, \u2018yeah 100 per cent\u2019 \u2013 I don\u2019t think anyone could do that.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think Ruben would probably say that himself with what we\u2019ve seen since he\u2019s been at the club. I think the recruitment has been good in the summer \u2013 I still want to see two or three more players brought in.<\/p>\n \u201cBut it\u2019s difficult [to say], \u2018right, this is going to be our manager for the next five years\u2019 on what we\u2019ve seen.\u201d<\/p>\n Reflecting on the Fulham draw, Rooney added: “The start of the game was really positive. They took the game to Fulham and there was some nice interplay, and then from getting the goal. . . they were passive in the second half again and it was too easy for Fulham to get through the backline.<\/p>\n “It looked like Fulham were going to go and win the game. I still think there’s a lot to be worked on. It’s still early in the season, of course it is, but United really needed to hit the ground running.”<\/p>\n United take on Grimsby in the Carabao Cup second round on Wednesday night.
