A Birmingham City fan has called for tougher police action after he returned to his vehicle to find it stripped and destroyed by ‘car cannibals’.<\/p>\n

The Blues fan, who asked to remain anonymous, parked his Peugeot 208 in Bolton Road<\/a> before watching his team’s 1-0 home win against Oxford United on Saturday, August 23.<\/p>\n

He had parked his electric vehicle close to St Andrew’s stadium because he was out with his 80-year-old father-in-law who struggles to walk long distances.<\/p>\n

The pair returned to the car after the match to find it completely decimated and stripped by thieves – known to police as ‘car cannibals’.<\/p>\n

Car cannibals, who sell the stripped vehicle parts for quick cash, have long preyed on Birmingham City<\/a> fans who park in streets around the ground.<\/p>\n

The latest victim of the devastating car crime told BirminghamLive<\/a>: “It happened between 1.30pm and 5pm.<\/p>\n

“I don’t usually drive but I was out with my 80-year-old father-in-law. I dropped him close to the fan park and found a space.<\/p>\n

“A local came out and gave me a description of a suspicious white BMW, or an Audi hatchback.<\/p>\n

“My main gripe is not the police response, but the lack of deterrent. West Midlands Police<\/a> knows this goes on.<\/p>\n

“There were so many officers at this low-risk game it was unreal. Some could have been sent to patrol the local area as a warning when the game was on.<\/p>\n

“I’ll protect Brum to my core but that area is rife with this, and nothing seems to be done. I hope police get lucky with CCTV.”<\/p>\n

The footy fan said some of his faith in humanity had been restored by the amount of people stopping to ask if he needed help.<\/p>\n
