{"id":372747,"date":"2025-08-25T16:35:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T16:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/372747\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T16:35:19","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T16:35:19","slug":"russia-bans-educational-nonprofit-international-baccalaureate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/372747\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia Bans Educational Nonprofit International Baccalaureate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"139\" data-end=\"355\">Russia\u2019s Prosecutor General\u2019s Office on Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/epp.genproc.gov.ru\/web\/gprf\/mass-media\/news?item=107225768\" title=\"designated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">designated<\/a> the Geneva-based International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as \u201cundesirable,\u201d accusing it of promoting Western values and spreading anti-Russian propaganda.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"357\" data-end=\"662\">\u201cThe NGO\u2019s goal is to shape Russian youth according to Western templates,\u201d the prosecutor\u2019s office said in a statement. \u201cIts teaching boils down to imposing its own interpretation of historical processes, distorting well-known facts, spreading anti-Russian propaganda and fomenting interethnic discord.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"664\" data-end=\"935\">Founded in 1968, IBO administers academic programs for students ages 3 to 19 that emphasize critical thinking and intercultural understanding,\u00a0according to its website. The programs are offered at around 5,000 schools and universities across 151 countries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"937\" data-end=\"1237\">IBO licensed its programs to dozens of state and private schools in Russia, including the International Gymnasium of the Skolkovo Innovation Center outside Moscow. The organization previously <a href=\"https:\/\/ibo.org\/news\/news-about-ib-schools\/open-letter-from-director-general-olli-pekka-heinonen-on-ukraine\/\" title=\"condemned\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemned<\/a> Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, pledging to support students and educators affected by the war.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1239\" data-end=\"1629\">The prosecutor\u2019s office claimed IBO has \u201cadjusted\u201d its curriculum since the invasion to reflect the \u201cRussophobic stance of the collective West,\u201d including alleged calls for isolating Russia internationally and \u201ccontent discrediting the Russian army.\u201d It also accused IBO representatives of promoting \u201cnon-traditional values based on the ideology of banned extremist organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1779\">Under Russian law, affiliation with an \u201cundesirable\u201d organization carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison, while leaders can face up to six years.<\/p>\n<p>Russia introduced its \u201cundesirable\u201d law in 2015, using it to crack down on independent media, opposition groups and foreign organizations.
