A man has been sentenced to six years in prison following his conviction for a series of domestic-related offences committed in Southport<\/a>. Aiden Spillane, 44, formerly of Southport and now of Cockleshell Square, Gosport, Hampshire, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, August 21.<\/p>\n He was found guilty of sexual assault and two counts of controlling or coercive behaviour, relating to incidents that took place over a seven year period.<\/p>\n Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Rebecca Morgan-Richardson said: “We are committed to tackling any form of abuse or violence against women or girls.<\/p>\n “I hope this sentence sends out a clear message that we will not tolerate any violence or abuse against women and will use our powers to bring people to justice.<\/p>\n “Domestic abuse can happen to anyone and we have specially trained officers who will listen to you and support you with sensitivity and compassion.<\/p>\n “I would also ask everyone to look out for your family members, friends or neighbours that may be suffering, by contacting us you could be helping someone who is too afraid to help themselves.<\/p>\n “Everything you tell us is taken extremely seriously and will be investigated thoroughly.”<\/p>\n If you have any non-urgent information on domestic abuse \u2013 if you are a victim or believe someone you know is a victim – you can contact police via direct message @MerPolCC on Twitter<\/a>, \u2018Merseyside Police Contact Centre\u2019 on Facebook<\/a> or contact @CrimestoppersUK, anonymously on 0800 555 111.<\/p>\n If you are in immediate danger, always call 999.
