{"id":372944,"date":"2025-08-25T18:18:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T18:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/372944\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T18:18:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T18:18:12","slug":"teenager-dies-at-belfast-festival-while-two-others-hospitalised-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/372944\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenager dies at Belfast festival while two others hospitalised \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A teenage girl has died and two other people are in hospital after they became ill at a festival in south Belfast on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) spokesperson said officers responded to a report of the sudden death of a girl, aged in her late teens, in hospital on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She had become unwell at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/culture\/stage\/review\/2025\/05\/16\/dublin-dance-festival-2025-in-oona-dohertys-specky-clark-the-body-never-lies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/culture\/stage\/review\/2025\/05\/16\/dublin-dance-festival-2025-in-oona-dohertys-specky-clark-the-body-never-lies\/\">Emerge dance festival <\/a>in Boucher Playing Fields.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The PSNI said two people remain in hospital after taking ill at the same event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A woman in her 30s was said to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital, while a teenage boy is receiving treatment in hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Police are continuing to make inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death and illnesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Belfast city councillor Micky Murray shared his condolences at the \u201cutterly heartbreaking\u201d news.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He said he had requested a meeting with council and festival representatives as he urged people not to speculate while police carry out their inquiries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI also wish for a full and speedy recovery for the other individuals who have been taken to the hospital and are reported to have attended the festival as well,\u201d Mr Murray said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cFestivals are meant to be safe spaces for people to celebrate their love of music and express themselves, no-one expects such a tragic incident to occur in this environment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe circumstances of the situation remain unclear, and as a representative on Belfast City Council, I have requested an urgent meeting with council officers and representatives from Emerge festival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI urge people not to speculate, as the police have stated that inquiries are still ongoing.\u201d &#8211;
