More than 70 firefighters are working to put out a blaze which saw a row of terraced homes in north London go up in flames. <\/p>\n
Residents have been evacuated after the homes were engulfed just before 4 pm this afternoon on Silkstream Road, Burnt Oak, Barnet.<\/p>\n
The London<\/a> Fire Brigade (LFB) is currently trying to put out the flames, which have spread to the roof and part of the first floor in a mid-terraced home.<\/p>\n The roofs of three other homes have also reportedly been damaged, prompting crews from Hendon, West Hampstead, Mill Hill and other stations to respond.<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t Residents were seen standing outside in a daze as first responders worked to bring it under control.<\/p>\n It\u2019s unclear what sparked the fire, but there are no reports of casualties so far. <\/p>\n \t\t Residents are being urged to stay away from the area until the fire is under control.<\/p>\n Deirdre Hackett, 75, and her husband Kevin, 78, were watching television when the fire started at the back of the house next door.<\/p>\n She told\u00a0Metro: \u2018<\/strong>Our neighbour was banging on our door for us to get out. He said he was out when it started. We were in a panic. It went up so quickly, but it felt like it took an age for the firefighters to get there.<\/p>\n The grandmother-of-six added: \u2018My grandchildren\u2019s school uniforms are in there and 50 years of memories and keepsakes. We will probably sit in the park for the night. We\u2019ve got two chairs we\u2019ll sit here for the night.\u2019<\/p>\n A pensioner who has lived in her end-of-terrace home for 50 years said she has \u2018lost everything\u2019 in the fire.<\/p>\n \u2018All those memories\u2019, she said as she was consoled by a family member.<\/p>\n One woman wrote on Facebook: \u2018Sad to say that the roofs are collapsing like stacks of dominoes.
