A man has been found guilty of carrying out a brutal domestic attack on his partner after an Old Firm game.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joseph Mulheron turned on the woman at her flat in Glasgow\u2019s Castlemilk on April 7, 2024.<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old was enraged as he falsely accused the woman of cheating on him with his brother.<\/p>\n

Mulheron repeatedly beat his partner, strangled her and stabbed her with a knife and fork.<\/p>\n

Mulheron was found guilty of assaulting his then-partner to her severe injury and danger of life.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0court\u00a0heard that the pair had been at a local bar to watch Rangers and Celtic draw 3-3 at Ibrox.<\/p>\n

The pair returned home where Mulheron claimed that she had cheated with his brother.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Ryan Watson told jurors in his closing speech: \u201cShe described him going for her, punching her repeatedly on the face using both hands.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe described being hit like how a man would be hit.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was pulled by her hair to the ground then he continued to kick her all over her body.\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman lay in the foetal position for her safety while Mulheron \u201claid into\u201d her.<\/p>\n

Mulheron then struck her on the head with her mobile phone and smashed it.<\/p>\n

Mr Watson added: \u201cMulheron then stabbed her on the head with a fork and placed two hands around her throat and squeezed, choked and strangled her.\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman believed that Mulheron was going to kill her during the horror ordeal.<\/p>\n

Mulheron took a kitchen knife and threatened to \u201ccut\u201d her with it then put it against her face.<\/p>\n

Mr Watson said: \u201cWhen he was on top of her, he proceeded to drop the knife on her head and laughed as he did it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mulheron left the flat as just as her mother entered in a planned visit.<\/p>\n

The \u201chysterical\u201d woman told her mother what Mulheron had done to her before she was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n

She was found to have suffered facial swelling, bruising to her face and abdominal pain. Her left eye was also swollen shut.<\/p>\n

Mulheron told jurors in his evidence that he was the victim of an attack by the woman.<\/p>\n

He stated that she hit her face off the ground during a struggle.<\/p>\n

Mulheron further claimed that he put his hand around the woman\u2019s neck for three seconds to \u201cget leverage\u201d to get up from the ground.<\/p>\n

Des Ziolo, defending, told the\u00a0court\u00a0that his client has previous convictions for domestic matters but has never received a custodial sentence.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Michael Hanlon deferred sentence until next month pending background reports.<\/p>\n

The sheriff said: \u201cA custodial sentence is very much in my mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Mulheron was given the privilege of bail while the trial was ongoing but standing the serious nature of the offence, I withdraw bail and he will be remanded into custody.\u201d<\/p>\n
