P\u00e9tanque in the picture<\/p>\n<p>Summer is the perfect time to enjoy a unique exhibition devoted to that most estival of village square pastimes, the popular game of p\u00e9tanque \u2013 with the added bonus of some welcome cool inside a modern museum.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place at the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019histoire in the p\u00e9tanque <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connexionfrance.com\/magazine\/i-sent-my-parents-to-marseille-this-is-what-they-thought\/733033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heartland of Marseille<\/a>, an exhibition on this historical and sociological impact of the game will focus in part on photographic works by Hans Silvester (born in 1938, in L\u00f6rrach, southern Germany), a photojournalist and member of the Rapho photographic agency known for its humanist editorial line.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Between 1960 and 1970, Silvester compiled a large body of photographs devoted to the game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/musees.marseille.fr\/petanque\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Runs until January 18 2026<\/a>; free entry.<\/p>\n<p>3. Under their spell<\/p>\n<p>Mounted in partnership with the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay in Paris, the summer exhibition at the Mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven (Finist\u00e8re), \u2013 celebrating its 40th anniversary this year \u2013 explores the figure of the witch in the 19th Century.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bringing together some 200 works from all artistic disciplines \u2013 painting, sculpture, photography, cinema, music, dance and literature \u2013 the exhibition examines how witches induced both repulsion and attraction, and how they were associated (by the male artists who depicted them) with the supernatural, with dark, disturbing and unmanageable forces. Yet how, after the publication in 1862 of Jules Michelet\u2019s seminal book La Sorci\u00e8re, witches became the embodiment of rebellion, but also of knowledge and harmony with the natural elements.<\/p>\n<p>The journey unfolds in three large sections that form a circle, with the first section joining the last: night, the body, knowledge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/museepontaven.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Witches (1860-1920): fantasies, knowledge, freedom<\/a> runs until November 16; \u20ac8 entry.<\/p>\n<p>4. Impressive Impressionism<\/p>\n<p>Explore the renowned works of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connexionfrance.com\/magazine\/claude-monet-french-impressionist-who-went-to-war-for-his-art\/281109\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Impressionist artist Claude Monet<\/a> like never before with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monetexpo.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">immersive exhibition<\/a> that opened at Toulouse\u2019s EDF Bazacle in early July. Since 2019, it has been seen by over a million people after visiting major cities including London and Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/714088.webp\" width=\"480\" height=\"312\" title=\"Chris WM Willemsen\/Shutterstock\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n            Monet&#8217;s gardens in Giverny<br \/>\n            Chris WM Willemsen\/Shutterstock\n        <\/p>\n<p>The show was created by Belgian company Exhibition Hub, which specialises in video mapping, a technology that enables works of art to be projected in gigantic, floor-to-ceiling dimensions. <\/p>\n<p>Visitors can admire Monet\u2019s most legendary works in an immersive 360-degree room, where every detail comes to life. The grandiose sound and light show is magnified by a screen height equivalent to two stories. It follows the hugely successful M.C.
