Make sure you don\u2019t miss out with our guide to the best of what\u2019s on in September.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 11th \u2013 20th: Berlin International Literature Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the <a href=\"https:\/\/literaturfestival.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Literature Festival Berlin<\/a> is a must-visit for book lovers and culture seekers. Photo: picture alliance \/ dpa | Uwe Anspach<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.thelocal.com\/20250825\/power-outage-in-copenhagen-affects-thousands-and-causes-traffic-disruption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wurstmarkt<\/a>, held annually in the town of Bad D\u00fcrkheim in Germany\u2019s Pfalz wine region, is the world\u2019s largest wine festival and one of the country\u2019s most traditional and entertaining public festivals.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its name, which means \u201csausage market,\u201d wine is the main attraction, with visitors able to sample around 300 different wines from local vineyards at over 36 traditional wine stalls called &#8220;Schubk\u00e4rchler.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Celebrated for over 600 years, the event began as a church fair to serve pilgrims visiting nearby St. Michael\u2019s Chapel and has evolved into a massive celebration of local wine, food, and culture, attracting over 600,000 visitors each year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 13th and 14th: Open Monument Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the second weekend of September, thousands of monuments and heritage sites that are usually closed to the public open their doors free of charge as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open Monument Day<\/a> (Tag des offenen Denkmals).<\/p>\n<p>Visitors can explore historic buildings, castles, churches, gardens, and sometimes even back rooms, rooftops, and cellars that are normally inaccessible.
