Kuang<\/strong><strong>\u00a0and Nicola Sturgeon\u2019s memoir,<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Frankly<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"\"><strong>New Kids\u2019 Zone gets seal of approval from thousands of young people and families, with Princess the Unicorn, Bunny Vs Monkey, Supertato and Pikachu inspiring future generations of readers<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"\"><strong>This year\u2019s children\u2019s programme featured multiple sold-out events and a world premiere from Julia Donaldson\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Paper Chase<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/eibf25.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/eibf25.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-211936\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Edinburgh International Book Festival has wrapped up a landmark year, celebrating a two-week long \u2018Repair\u2019 themed programme of events for all ages and interests, that saw conversations of global significance take place on stage, and connected with existing audiences while welcoming a whole new generation of readers.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The 2025 festival, which hosted over 650 authors and nearly 700 events saw a remarkable\u00a0<strong>11% increase in ticket sales<\/strong>\u00a0over the previous year, with record numbers of people enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The festival\u2019s new home at EFI proved a major draw with the courtyard welcoming over\u00a0<strong>25,000 visitors<\/strong>\u00a0in a single weekend and a whopping 161,889 people in total, an increase of 60% compared to 2024, an unquestionable sign it\u2019s settled into its new, permanent home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This surge in footfall, combined with a significant rise in first-time bookers, shows the festival\u2019s success in reaching new audiences and capitalising on its new location right at the heart of the Edinburgh Festivals footprint. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ya-book-prize.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ya-book-prize.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-211939\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This was evident not least in the newly increased and re-targeted YA programme, which proved a resounding success, hitting its mark with readers 30 and under, solidifying the festival\u2019s appeal to the next generation of literary enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Once again, The Front List strand of events, which increased from eleven to fifteen in 2025, were packed out with over 12,000 people turning up in person at McEwan Hall to hear from writers including literary titans\u00a0<strong>Ian McEwan<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Maggie O\u2019Farrell<\/strong>, contemporary phenomena\u00a0<strong>Asuko Yuzuki<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>R F Kuang<\/strong>, political heavyweights <strong>Yulia Navalnaya\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Nicola Sturgeon,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0even the celebrity co-creator of beloved sitcom\u00a0Gavin and Stacey,\u00a0<strong>Ruth Jones.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This year also marked a cornerstone moment for Scottish independent publishers and female writers. The bestseller list was topped by standout titles from Scottish women including\u00a0<strong>Mairi Kidd\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0The Specimens, and event led titles including Katabasis\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>R. F. Kuang<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Nicola Sturgeon\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0Frankly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Beyond the physical site, the festival\u2019s digital reach expanded dramatically, connecting communities across 12 local authority areas by streaming events, free of charge, into over 40 libraries, which in turn hosted over 90 \u2018watch parties\u2019, as part of the newly launched Paper Trails initiative. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In addition, a global audience of almost\u00a0<strong>19,000\u00a0<\/strong>from<strong>\u00a063 countries across five continents\u00a0<\/strong>tuned in for streamed events, proving the festival\u2019s ability to foster conversations that transcend geographical boundaries. And with events available for the rest of the year, and more to be added on an on-demand basis in Autumn, global audiences have lots more coming to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/eibf-crowds.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1638\" height=\"2048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/eibf-crowds.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-211937\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This year\u2019s program was defined by timely and important discussions that reflected a public hunger for considered, informed conversations on global issues.
