{"id":375082,"date":"2025-08-26T13:56:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T13:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/375082\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T13:56:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T13:56:09","slug":"benelux-countries-confident-that-ukraine-and-moldova-share-common-future-in-eu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/375082\/","title":{"rendered":"Benelux countries confident that Ukraine and Moldova share common future in EU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stock photo: Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Benelux countries believe Moldova and Ukraine share a common future within the European Union, Luxembourg\u2019s Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel has said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source<\/strong>: Bettel at a press conference on Tuesday 26 August, as reported by European Pravda<\/p>\n<p><strong>Details<\/strong>: Bettel is currently in Odesa, a city in Ukraine\u2019s south, with Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Pr\u00e9vot and Heleen Bakker, Director-General for European Cooperation at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement:<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>At the press conference, Bettel noted that he had arrived in Odesa from Moldova, where, in his words, &#8220;there is no will to say there is a future for one country without the other country&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe, and also after discussions that we had, that it&#8217;s a common future for both countries and not to use one country against the other country like Russia would love to do it,&#8221; he said, referring to Ukraine\u2019s EU accession.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>&#13;<\/p>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The actual launch of Ukraine\u2019s accession negotiations is known to have been blocked by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n, who has been exploiting the issue for domestic political purposes.<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Hungarian authorities organised a manipulative public survey on whether citizens supported Ukraine\u2019s accession to the EU, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pravda.com.ua\/eng\/news\/2025\/06\/26\/7518820\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">later claiming that 95% voted against it<\/a>.<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurointegration.com.ua\/eng\/articles\/2025\/05\/5\/7210885\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hungary\u2019s veto<\/a> has sparked concerns over a possible &#8220;decoupling&#8221; of Ukraine and Moldova on their paths to EU membership to avoid harming Moldovan President Maia Sandu\u2019s position ahead of this autumn\u2019s parliamentary elections.
