{"id":375196,"date":"2025-08-26T14:53:30","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T14:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/375196\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T14:53:30","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T14:53:30","slug":"starving-cats-found-in-squalid-conditions-at-bristol-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/375196\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Starving cats found in squalid conditions&#8217; at Bristol home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The RSPCA said some of the animals had sadly died<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35 __className_09cdb8\">Annette Belcher<\/strong> Digital Publishing Editor<\/p>\n<p>12:21, 26 Aug 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_ABR_BRISTOL_260825_CATS_01JPG.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>The RSPCA was contacted after concerns were raised about cats being abandoned by their owner<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A woman has been banned from owning animals for ten years after starving cats were found living in &#8216;squalid conditions.&#8217; Samantha Ann Lerway, of Fairford Crescent, Stoke Lodge, Bristol, pleaded guilty to animal welfare offences following an investigation and prosecution by the RSPCA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Inspector Kim Walters, who investigated for the animal welfare charity, was called to the address after concerns were raised about cats being abandoned by their owner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Inside cats were found alongside the bodies of cats and a rabbit, with numerous cat carcasses in the bathroom, and a half eaten cat carcass in a bedroom. The home was cluttered with animal faeces and rubbish, according to the RSPCA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Alongside the ten year disqualification from owning animals, she was sentenced to 18 weeks custody, suspended for two years, and a nine month mental health treatment requirement with 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days and a \u00a340 fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Sign up to receive daily news updates and breaking news alerts straight to your inbox for free <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3r1T6AI\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The 38-year-old was also ordered to pay \u00a3400 costs when she was sentenced at Bristol Magistrates\u2019 Court on August 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In mitigation it was said she was struggling with mental health issues at the time.
