\n A weather warning for coastal storms bringing waves up to five metres high has been issued for France’s west coast.\n <\/p>\n

A storm surge linked to Cyclone Erin in the Atlantic ocean is set to batter the west coast of France on Tuesday afternoon and evening, with coastal areas put on alert for high waves and possible coastal flooding.<\/p>\n

The coastal areas of the d\u00e9partements of Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es-Atlantique\u00e9, Gironde, Landes and Charente-Maritime in south west France, plus the Brittany d\u00e9partements of Finist\u00e8re and C\u00f4tes d’Armor are on alert for high waves.<\/p>\n

“A combination of strong winds linked to Cyclone Erin and high tides will cause significant swells with waves reaching up to 4 to 5 metres,” warned<\/a> M\u00e9t\u00e9o France.<\/p>\n

Winds of between 45km\/h and 55km\/h are also expected along the west coast. Local authorities have closed beaches and bathing areas in several places.<\/p>\n

The storm is expected to strike on Tuesday afternoon, and continue overnight.<\/p>\n

France has been experiencing a week of pleasant, summery weather but storms and rain and are expected to move across the whole country on Wednesday and Thursday.
