{"id":375990,"date":"2025-08-26T21:56:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T21:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/375990\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T21:56:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T21:56:09","slug":"scroll-shaped-skyscraper-design-wins-vote-to-replace-iconic-novy-arbat-building-in-moscow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/375990\/","title":{"rendered":"Scroll-Shaped Skyscraper Design Wins Vote to Replace Iconic Novy Arbat Building in Moscow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"156\" data-end=\"364\">Moscow\u2019s city government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mos.ru\/news\/item\/158692073\/\" title=\"said\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0on Monday that a scroll-shaped skyscraper has won an online vote to replace one of the capital\u2019s landmark book-shaped buildings on Novy Arbat, which was declared unsafe last year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"366\" data-end=\"586\">In February, media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kommersant.ru\/doc\/7478253\" title=\"reported\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the Mayor\u2019s Office had tapped commercial developer Kievskaya Ploshchad, founded by Russian-Azerbaijani billionaires God Nisanov and Zarakh Iliev, to invest in the project.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"588\" data-end=\"875\">Authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.mos.ru\/polls\/17216\/statistic?filters=stats_by_time\" title=\"launched\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> the online vote on Aug. 15, offering residents three high-rise designs to replace the Soviet-era Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (Comecon) building. The 26-story structure, long known for its book-like silhouette, was <a href=\"https:\/\/stroi.mos.ru\/press_releases\/zdaniie-sev-budiet-riekonstruirovano\" title=\"deemed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deemed<\/a> structurally unsound in October.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"1039\">By the end of the poll, 46% voted for a design that preserves the existing tower while adding a new skyscraper shaped like a scroll and twice as tall.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1041\" data-end=\"1342\">\u201cConsidering the condition of the structure, specialists will carry out the necessary reconstruction work,\u201d the mayor\u2019s office said in a statement.
