Ruben Amorim praised Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson after the academy graduates impressed in Manchester United’s defeat to Wolves, admitting they “deserved better” than ending up on the losing side.<\/p>\n
Fredricson, 20, was making his United debut and his first appearance of any kind in professional football. He impressed on the left side of Amorim’s three-man defence, dumping Matheus Cunha to the floor with one well-timed first-half tackle.<\/p>\n
18-year-old Amass made his first start for the club at Newcastle last week, but this was his first senior start at Old Trafford<\/a> and he had another bright afternoon at left wing-back. He sent in a couple of dangerous crosses as he completed 90 minutes for the first time in his United career.<\/p>\n Despite their efforts, United slumped to a 15th defeat of the Premier League<\/a> season, with Pablo Sarabia’s late free-kick securing all three points for Wolves.<\/p>\n Amorim said he will make a decision on which young players can form part of his squad for next season once this campaign is over, but he was pleased with the way two of his youngsters showed up against Wolves.<\/p>\n “What I felt today is they deserved a better memory from their first games. Tyler and Amass played really well. They deserved better,” said Amorim.<\/p>\n “We were the better team, we played well, created chances, but in the end, one opportunity for the opponent and they scored. The memory is not the best for these kids but they played quite well.”<\/p>\n Amorim had cautioned against the risk of throwing young players into an underperforming team, but with United’s sights now set firmly on the Europa League<\/a> he gave Fredricson and Amass the opportunity, while 17-year-old striker Chido Obi also came on for Rasmus Hojlund in the second half.<\/p>\n The United head coach felt his side had been the better team, but a lack of cutting edge cost them once again as they failed to score for the 13th time in the Premier League this season.<\/p>\n “If you look at the game, we were the better team but in the end, it doesn\u2019t matter because if we don\u2019t score goals, nothing matters, in the end what counts is the result, especially in these kinds of moments,” said Amorim.<\/p>\n “We create a lot of chances, we had a game, we control the game, we blocked some good players from the opponent and one set piece changes the game and that\u2019s it, it\u2019s really frustrating to end the game like this.”<\/p>\n —<\/p>\n Here at the Manchester Evening News, we\u2019re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United<\/a> coverage and analysis.<\/p>\n Make sure you don\u2019t miss out on the latest United news by joining our free WhatsApp group.
