{"id":376043,"date":"2025-08-26T22:26:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T22:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/376043\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T22:26:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T22:26:16","slug":"bristol-woman-receives-10-year-ban-after-cats-found-starving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/376043\/","title":{"rendered":"Bristol woman receives 10 year ban after cats found starving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Samantha Ann Lerway, 38, of Fairford Crescent, Stoke Lodge, Bristol, pleaded guilty to animal welfare offences, following an investigation and prosecution by the\u00a0RSPCA.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspector Kim Walters, who investigated for the animal welfare charity, was called to the address after concerns were raised about cats being abandoned by their owner.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inside live cats were found alongside the bodies of cats and a rabbit, with numerous cat carcasses in the bathroom, and a half eaten cat carcass in a bedroom.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The home was cluttered with animal faeces and rubbish.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Alongside the ten year disqualification from owning animals, she was sentenced to 18 weeks custody, suspended for two years, and a nine month mental health treatment requirement with 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days and a \u00a340 fine.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She was also ordered to pay \u00a3400 costs when she was sentenced at Bristol Magistrates\u2019 Court on August 11.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In mitigation it was said she was struggling with mental health issues at the time.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The surviving cats, who were underweight and had fleas at their time of rescue, were signed over into the care of the\u00a0RSPCA\u00a0for rehoming.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspector Walter said after sentencing: \u201cOwners have a duty and responsibility to ensure the needs of their animals are met, this includes making sure they have a suitable diet and the care they need to stay healthy.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThankfully the surviving cats have now recovered after getting the help and care they needed at\u00a0RSPCA\u00a0Brent Knoll Animal Centre.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Samantha Ann Lerway, 38, of Fairford Crescent, Stoke Lodge, Bristol, pleaded guilty to animal welfare offences, following an&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":376044,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8818],"tags":[381,748,393,4884,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-376043","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-bristol","8":"tag-bristol","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-england","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115097422185284786","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/376043","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=376043"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/376043\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/376044"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=376043"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=376043"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=376043"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
