A man in his 20s is in a serious condition in hospital, police have confirmed as they issued an appeal for information following a crash close to Castledawson earlier today.<\/p>\n
The two vehicle crash happened at around 6.45am close to the Glenshane Road and Tamnadeese Road area.<\/p>\n
A number of emergency services attended including the PSNI and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service<\/p>\n
NIAS confirmed they sent six ambulances to the incident. The Air Ambulance service also attended.<\/p>\n
They confirmed five people in total were taken to two different hospitals.<\/p>\n
The northbound lane of the Glenshane Road was closed to traffic from the Castledawson roundabout for several hours this morning and police were asking road users to avoid the area.<\/p>\n
The incident has now been cleared.<\/p>\n

A NIAS spokesperson said: \u201cThe Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 06:45 on Tuesday 26th August, following reports of an RTC in the Tamnadeese Road area, Castledawson.<\/p>\n
\u201cNIAS dispatched six emergency ambulances to the scene.<\/p>\n
“The charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board were also tasked to the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing assessment and initial treatment at the scene, three people were taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast by ambulance. Another two people were taken to Antrim Area Hospital by ambulance.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a new statement PSNI Sergeant Hamilton said: \u201cShortly before 6:45am, it was reported that a blue Volvo car and a black Volkswagen Passat were involved in the incident. One man in his 20s was taken to hospital for his injuries, which are described as serious. Four other males were taken to hospital for their injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Glenshane Road, which was closed following the collision, has now reopened.<\/p>\n
\u201cEnquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information or dash-cam footage in relation to the collision, to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 161 26\/08\/25.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Man in his 20s is in a \u2018serious\u2019 condition in hospital Stock image.
