A serial rapist has been jailed indefinitely after he attacked two vulnerable unconscious teenagers in Edinburgh.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Raymond Nyiam, also known as Otu Nyiam, was convicted of two counts of rape at the High Court in Edinburgh.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old met both of the victims outside a nightclub in the capital on February 19, 2019 and attacked them at a flat.<\/p>\n

Both girls were either asleep or unconscious due to the effects of alcohol, meaning they were incapable of giving consent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nyiam was previously convicted of attacking a 23-year-old woman during the early hours of March 5, 2017, and another woman on November 29, 2018.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Nyiam was made subject to an Order for Lifelong Restriction, which can be imposed on people convicted\u00a0of\u00a0serious, violent or sexual\u00a0offences, other than murder, at the High Court.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old must serve four years behind bars before he is able to apply for parole.<\/p>\n

His name has been added to the sex offenders register indefinitely. He was also given an indefinite non-harassment order.<\/p>\n

Fiona Kirkby, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, said: \u201cRaymond Nyiam systematically pursued these young women, who had the right to be safe after enjoying a night out.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead, he exploited their vulnerability to rape them when they were incapable of giving consent.<\/p>\n

\u201cNyiam has now been held accountable for his depraved actions, which would not have been possible without the women affected by his crimes coming forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope this prosecution sends a clear message that this type of offending will not be tolerated and has no place in society.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would urge anyone affected by sexual abuse to consider reporting it when they feel ready and able to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will be listened to and supported as we use all the tools available to us to help protect communities in Scotland by prosecuting those responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n
