{"id":376598,"date":"2025-08-27T03:25:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T03:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/376598\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T03:25:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T03:25:10","slug":"venezuela-deploys-warships-drones-to-coast-as-us-naval-squadron-nears-nicolas-maduro-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/376598\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuela deploys warships, drones to coast as US naval squadron nears | Nicolas Maduro News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Venezuela\u2019s defence minister says military vessels and drones will be sent to patrol the country\u2019s coastline amid simmering tension with the United States after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/26\/venezuela-sends-troops-to-colombia-border-as-us-ships-join-cartel-operation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington deployed warships<\/a> to waters off Venezuela to fight drug trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>In a video on social media on Tuesday, Minister of Defence Vladimir Padrino announced a \u201csignificant\u201d drone deployment as well as naval patrols along the country\u2019s Caribbean coast, including \u201clarger vessels further north in our territorial waters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/26\/us-warships-head-to-venezuela-fight-against-cartels-or-imperial-ambition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">move comes after Washington<\/a> last week deployed an amphibious squadron of three warships towards Venezuela\u2019s coast in what it said was an operation against Latin American drug cartels.<\/p>\n<p>News agencies reported on Monday that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/21\/us-warships-may-reach-venezuela-coast-by-weekend-in-drug-cartel-operation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two more US ships<\/a> \u2013 a guided missile cruiser and a nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine \u2013 had also been dispatched to the Caribbean, and that some 4,500 US service members, including 2,200 Marines, were part of the deployment.<\/p>\n<p>The US naval build-up comes after the administration of US President Donald Trump last week accused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/8\/us-doubles-reward-for-arrest-of-venezuelas-president-maduro-to-50m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venezuela\u2019s left-wing president, Nicolas Maduro<\/a>, of being involved in cocaine trafficking and working with drug cartels.<\/p>\n<p>Washington also announced that it had doubled a reward for the capture or prosecution of Maduro on drug charges from $25m to $50m.
