‘The Queen’ director Sir Stephen Frears has been convicted of speeding near his \u00a32.4million London<\/a> home.<\/p>\n

The veteran filmmaker, 84, is already serving a six-month driving ban handed down in July.<\/p>\n

He had racked up at least 12 penalty points for previous offences and\u00a0is barred from getting back behind the wheel until January.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the BAFTA-winning director was caught doing 29mph in a 20mph zone on Park Road, close to his Marylebone house, on December 12 last year while at the wheel of his ten-year-old black Toyota Auris hybrid.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sir Stephen admitted the offence at Lavender Hill Magistrates\u2019 Court yesterday, where he appeared alongside his wife, artist Anne Rothenstein, 76.\u00a0He was later spotted leaving in a taxi.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Caroline Cross told the short hearing Sir Stephen was recorded speeding at 11.04am.<\/p>\n

Sir Stephen was not legally represented and declined to address the magistrates, who handed him a further three penalty points, which will be added to his licence once his ban is lifted.<\/p>\n

He was also fined \u00a3194, with \u00a3130 costs and must pay a \u00a378 victim surcharge.<\/p>\n

The Leicester-born filmmaker, a Cambridge graduate, received a knighthood in 2023.<\/p>\n

He was an assistant stage manager for the university\u2019s 1963 Footlights Revue, which starred the likes of John Cleese and Tim Brooke-Taylor.<\/p>\n

Sir Stephen\u2019s films include \u2018My Beautiful Laundrette\u2019; \u2018Prick Up Your Ears\u2019; \u2018Dangerous Liaisons\u2019; \u2018The Grifters\u2019; \u2018Mary Reilly\u2019; \u2018High Fidelity\u2019; \u2018Dirty Pretty Things\u2019; and \u2018Philomena\u2019.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
