A man was caught with a handgun<\/a> outside of a nightclub in Glasgow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jack McGill, 22, was snared with the weapon near Firewater in the city centre’s<\/a> Sauchiehall Street on October 12 2024.<\/p>\n

Glasgow Sheriff Court<\/a> heard that McGill was standing beside a group of people being detained outside the club.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Ryan Diamond said: “Officers told McGill to remove his hand from his waistband as they feared he had a knife.<\/p>\n

“Officers took hold of McGill and he shouted and swore then arrested him for disorderly conduct. A search of his jacket pocket found an imitation firearm.”<\/p>\n

McGill was put into a police vehicle<\/a> where he became abusive and called an officer a “f***ing m****.”<\/p>\n

McGill, of the city’s Barmulloch, pleaded guilty to having an imitation firearm in a public place. He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was agreed by McGill who represented himself at today’s sentencing<\/a> that the weapon was made to look like an M1911 semi-automatic handgun.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Mark McGuire asked him: “Do you accept at 2am it might not be obvious to someone that this looks like the real thing?” McGill replied: “Yes.”<\/p>\n

The hearing was told that McGill stated to a social worker that he bought the handgun from England “to play about with.”<\/p>\n

He claimed he had it on him that night to “keep it out of reach of his son and his partner’s brother.”<\/p>\n
