Duchess Meghan<\/a> rarely speaks openly about her years as a senior royal in the British royal family, but when she does, we are there for the English breakfast tea.<\/p>\n

During her recent sit-down interview on The Circuit with Emily Chang<\/a>, the Duchess of Sussex recalled a certain fashion rule she had to follow when performing her royal duties alongside husband Prince Harry and his family members.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs there an inherent tension in trying to be relatable while also being a duchess?\u201d Chang asked her. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I don\u2019t find\u2014I\u2019m just being myself. So I think, probably, it was different several years ago, where I couldn\u2019t be as vocal,\u201d Meghan admitted.<\/p>\n

The now-duchess married Harry in May 2018, and the two welcomed their first child, Prince Archie, in May 2019. But in January of 2020, Harry and Meghan decided to step away from their roles as senior royals and move to California to raise their family. They welcomed daughter Princess Lilibet in June 2021.<\/p>\n

Now the face of quiet luxury and elevated California cool, Meghan recalled in the interview how she had to dress as a senior royal. \u201cI had to wear nude pantyhose all the time,\u201d she said. \u201cLet\u2019s be honest, that was not very myself. I hadn\u2019t seen pantyhose since the \u201980s, when they came in the little egg? That felt a little bit inauthentic, but that\u2019s a silly example.\u201d<\/p>\n

The freedom Meghan has gained since leaving the royal family has, of course, extended beyond fashion. In the past five years, Meghan and Harry have launched a docuseries<\/a>, a book<\/a>, two podcasts<\/a>, Meghan\u2019s lifestyle brand<\/a>, her lifestyle series<\/a>, and many other projects. And, as they\u2019ve recently extended their deal with Netflix, they have a lot more to come<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it is an example of when you\u2019re able to dress the way you wanna dress and you\u2019re able to say the things that are true and you\u2019re able to show up in the space really organically and authentically, that\u2019s being comfortable in your own skin. And that\u2019s, of course, had different chapters in my life,\u201d Meghan continued. \u201cBut right now, no, I don\u2019t feel, I don\u2019t feel that I need to prove anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
