{"id":378465,"date":"2025-08-27T20:04:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T20:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/378465\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T20:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T20:04:11","slug":"moldovas-future-lies-in-european-union-french-president-macron","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/378465\/","title":{"rendered":"Moldova\u2019s future lies in European Union: French President Macron"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISTANBUL <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday reiterated Paris\u2019 firm support for Moldova\u2019s EU membership aspirations, declaring that the country\u2019s future is inseparable from Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at celebrations in Chisinau to mark the 34th anniversary of Moldova\u2019s independence, Macron stood alongside Moldovan President Maia Sandu, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.<\/p>\n<p>He said their joint presence is a symbol of Europe\u2019s solidarity with Moldova at a time when its sovereignty and democracy face challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt appeared essential to us to come and celebrate this symbolic day, marking Moldova\u2019s entry into an era of sovereignty and regained freedom,\u201d Macron said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish to send the Moldovan people a message of respect, friendship, solidarity, and confidence in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Macron underlined that Moldova, which formally applied for EU membership three years ago, has taken \u201ca historic step\u201d by enshrining its European orientation in its constitution last year.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that while the EU accession process is difficult, it provides Moldovans with &#8220;a historic chance for prosperity and security.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Moldovan people have understood that accession to the European Union represents a chance for the modernization of their country, for opportunities for youth and economic actors, and access to a market of 450 million consumers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He praised Moldova\u2019s progress on reforms, particularly in the justice system and economic modernization, and highlighted that the EU has recently approved the disbursement of the first payments under a \u20ac1.9 billion growth and reform plan.<\/p>\n<p>France, Macron added, would continue to provide technical expertise, financial support, and cultural cooperation, citing projects in energy, infrastructure, education, and heritage restoration.<\/p>\n<p>He announced a new double degree program in law between the Sorbonne and Moldova State University, as well as the restoration of historic buildings in Chisinau.<\/p>\n<p>Turning to regional security, Macron criticized Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine and dismissed Kremlin claims that the EU sought to prolong the conflict or oppress nations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are lies,\u201d he said. \u201cUnlike Russia, the European Union threatens no one.
