Next month, the Royal Festival Hall will celebrate one of the defining tropes of his pictures: the soundscapes.

Often known to make an inoffensive setting – the diner of a small town, the winding roads around Hollywood – feel unsettling, Lynch was a master at adding the right music to scenes. And when watching In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited on September 21, audiences will hear reditions of the sounds that transport them from the ordinary to the surreal with a few swift notes.

Image: John T. Roberts, Shutterstock In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited

Every fan of Lynch’s movies will have their own favourite one of his pictures; it might even be his pivot from cinema to television when he put out that little-known series called Twin Peaks. At this celebration of his work at the Southbank Centre, you’ll get to hear versions of the songs from the full range of his works, which will likely include that very favourite of yours.

Musical director David Coutler is at the helm for this, with him and his ensemble paying tribute to the maverick with interpretations of his scores. Expect to hear the musicians work their way through the Neo-Noir soundscapes of Blue Velvet; numbers from The Elephant Man & Mulholland Drive; and, of course, the uneasy tones and nightmarish world of the aforementioned Twin Peaks.

Guest vocalists on the night include Anna Calvi, Mick Harvey, Sophia Brous, Kirin J. Callinan, and Conor O’Brien, and the show runs for an hour and a half to celebrate the works of Lynch. By the end, you’ll all be walking out, saying: That was a damn fine cup of coffee set of soundscapes.

‘In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited’ is a one-off show at the Royal Festival Hall on September 21, and you can find tickets & more information here.

Credit: Sara Amroussi-Gilissen In January this year, the world lost the great filmmaking powerhouse that is David Lynch.…

[7757
748,188,393,4884,257,22505,17245,16,15
0":"post-378778","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-london","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-crime","10":"tag-england","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-london","13":"tag-mystery","14":"tag-thriller","15":"tag-uk","16":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
